The Göta Canal is one of Sweden's greatest works of art of all time, and one of the biggest tourist attractions. This cycling map starts in the west at Vättern and Motala and extends to Lake Roxen and all the way to little Mem where the canal flows into Slätbaken and the Baltic Sea.
The cycling along the canal is mostly flat and offers charming views of boat traffic and a rugged Östergötland landscape. Many of the towns in Östergötland dating back to the Middle Ages are also on the cycle map. Cities such as Motala, Vadstena, Skänninge, Mjölby and Linköping are included in the northern part of the map. In the southern part of this cycling map, Söderköping, Åtvidaberg and Valdemarsvik are found in the southeast.
Please note that the printed map does not show the current route past Lake Asplången. Nowadays you can instead take the bike boat across Lake Asplången, a nice experience that is part of the route along the Göta Canal. See our digital map, Stage 6: Berg-Asplången.
All information in the map is available in Swedish, English and German.
