The Sweden Trail is marked with green signs.

The northern stages of the Sweden Trail invite you to travel through some of Sweden's most enchanting and scenic landscapes. This stretch of the trail offers a sense of true adventure, with each new stage revealing a new part of Sweden's magnificent nature and rich culture. You are walking in an area that is also characterized by the Sami culture. The Sami are one of the world's indigenous peoples with their own culture, language and traditions.

From Karesuando, wedged on the Swedish-Finnish border, the trail takes you into a powerful landscape of forests, coastlines, stately mountains and towns steeped in history. During the summer months, you will experience the light of the midnight sun. It's a special feeling to be north of the Arctic Circle. Haparanda is a border town where Swedish and Finnish cultures merge.

As the journey continues south, coastal towns such as Piteå and Umeå become exciting stops along the way. Further south, the trail winds through the hinterland of Västerbotten and the mountains of Jämtland, where you have several opportunities to cycle west into Norway.

The Norra Sverigeleden trail ends in the coastal town of Sundsvall in Medelpad. It offers a perfect combination of nature and cultural heritage. The northern stretch of the Sweden Trail is more than a cycle path - it's a deep dive into the magnificent nature of northern Sweden.

Large parts of the Northern Sweden Trail run along roads with high speeds - up to 100 km/h, but mostly with low traffic volumes. We will come back with more detailed information per stage for the 2025 cycling season.
