The Emigration Trail takes you through the Småland landscape where Sweden's great emigration history has its roots. The trail runs along winding country roads on both asphalt and gravel, and offers a journey filled with both nature experiences and cultural history.
Along the way, you’ll pass attractions such as the Korrö Crafts Village, the 1,500-year-old “judge’s circle” in Flåboda, and the ruins of the Modala Glassworks, where the author Vilhelm Moberg himself worked in his youth. Be sure to stop at the memorial stone in Påvemåla, the site of the soldier’s cottage where Moberg grew up at the turn of the last century.
Here you find yourself in the very settings that inspired Moberg’s *The Emigrants*, the gripping story of Karl-Oskar and Kristina, who left Sweden for America—a story shared by some 1.5 million Swedes who emigrated between 1860 and 1920.
The Emigrants' Trail is marked with red bicycle signs, while the parallel hiking trail has orange signage. Along the trail, you'll find places to stay, historical sites, and vibrant cultural environments, making it perfect for a multi-day cycling trip.
