Cycling in Enköping's beautiful parks

The small triangular park is Enköping's oldest landscaped park. It was built in 1899 as the city's fine room. The park has the turn-of-the-century character preserved through period-typical narrow gravel walkways, well-cut lawns and ornate summer flower partridges. The Johanna fountain also contributes to the character of the place.

This is a pocket park - a woodland that turns into a barren area. Stylized beach ending in a stone square with stemmed pines. Here you will find grass species in different shapes, from the mowed lawn to the flowering plumes of the elephant grass.

This garden of ideas was created by gardeners and artisans for the exhibition "The garden and arts and crafts" in Stockholm, when the city was the capital of culture in 1998. The park has the color blue as its theme. In addition to plants, water and sky are therefore important parts.

The park is designed by the Dutch designer Piet Oudolf. Gravel passages and cylindrical beech hedges form a labyrinth where you can stroll around and enjoy the vegetation. The park is unique and changes character throughout the growing season. After flowering, the park retains its experiential value when seed stands and withered plant parts give character and beauty. During the winter, the park is dressed in winter garb with frosted grass and winter stands.

The trimmed beech hedge and the lush vegetation with trees and perennials protect against visibility and sound. To the southwest, the park opens towards Enköpingsån where the walnut stretches out its branches with lime green pendants and leaves. This meeting place has the character of both a square and a park because there was once a market place here.

In this pocket park with a woodland feel, you can let yourself be enveloped by the vegetation. You will find everything from exotic trees such as Kentucky coffee and crucian carp to cats and paradise bushes. Rippling water in combination with perennial rugs and a pergola adorned with clematis enhances the tranquility you can experience in the park.

This parade facility with fountain and discounts in large volumes is located in central Enköping. Here is the city's great summer flower experience, which offers a new colorful theme every year, designed by Mona Holmberg. The boxwood hedges provide green funds for the double-sided flower beds. Cut hedges of yew, deciduous trees and ground-covering perennials shield against the alarm of the street.

The chaplain is a circular raised park square adjacent to the city's oldest buildings. The globe-shaped marshes create spaciousness and the ground below is covered with red sock flower. A Caucasian wing nut tree gives character together with a bronze ball with rippling water. Kungsgatan's Japanese magnolias bloom on bare twigs in early spring.

In Klosterparken you can still see traces of the Franciscan monks' monastery building. There are streaks of fantastic magnolias, and along the promenade there are lush and colorful perennials. Jetties and the marina bring you closer to the water. The central part of the park consists of open grass areas surrounded by a large yew hedge and various deciduous trees. As a quiet oasis in this activity park is Blomstergården, a small Asian woodland.

The bridge is decorated with plantings of summer flowers. Under the bridge flows Enköpingsån.

This peony park is designed as a flower garden with square squares framed by beech hedges and trellis. There used to be a croft on the site and the old apple trees are reminiscent of that. The windows are filled with an early summer bloom of peonies and columbines in all the colors of the rainbow. Everything is framed by clearly cut boxwood hedges. Perennials such as anemones and asters give the park autumn coloring.

The park is one of the city's pocket parks and is surrounded by a clipped hedge. The place is dominated by a pond with water, and adjacent to this is a pump house from the 18th century. The source is known from the Middle Ages. Here the people of Enköping fetched their water until the 20th century. In the park you feel surrounded by vegetation. You can sit in the shade under the trees and listen to the rippling of the water.

Under climbing rose and clematis portals, you walk into the circular rose garden. It is surrounded by a sculpted yew hedge. Here you can enjoy most of the roses, named or liked by famous women. Trees like hornbeam and ornamental cherries rise around you. Roses and clematis cling to cylindrical trellis of rusty iron.

This herb garden is adjacent to Enköping's museum and is framed by an old model fence. Here you will find plants for plant dyeing, cooking and medicine. Aromatic scents from lavender, thyme and rock candle spread under the real walnut tree. Mulberries and real chestnuts also grow in this protected environment. There are also traditional herbs such as St. John's wort and wormwood and more modern herbs such as rudbeckia and mint.

In this turn-of-the-century park with rolling grassy landscapes, there are both native and exotic trees. The park is adjacent to the wooded Kyrkåsen, which offers a quiet walking area with nice views. In the Azalea Valley, the air is filled with a lovely scent when the bright pink, yellow and fiery yellow azaleas bloom. The June magnolias extend over these. Even in our little pinnetum, the conifer collection, you can make fun discoveries.

In recent years, this older park has been converted into a woodland with rhododendrons, yews, magnolias and shade-loving perennials. At the edge of the Enköping river, crawling lilies, ferns and rams grow. Branches of lobed beech and Caucasian wingnut stretch across the edge.

Here is Doctor Ernst Westerlund's home, internship and garden from the turn of the century 1800–1900. The farm is available for visits when the museum is open.

Along Enköpingsån there is a park route where you can experience different types of environments. You can walk past the lilac hills, through the walnut grove and look into the Blue Garden with clematis trellis and hop tower. At Åpromenaden, you can also enjoy art and idea gardens created by various designers, from celebrities such as Noel Kingsbury and Piet Oudolf to primary school students.
