This is a cycling trip with short distances where you can experience Enköping's fantastic parks during all seasons of the year. Sometimes it is best to lead the bike, and as always when moving inside a city, you should pay attention to the traffic. Enköping has a total of 26 parks, six roundabout plantations and 19 idea gardens.

Enköping's strategy has been to invest in many fine parks instead of a single large city park. The smallest are called pocket parks. The person behind this way of thinking is called Stefan Mattsson and is a former city gardener in Enköping. A strategy that gives you a pleasant bike ride around the city. In each park there is a box with plant lists and plans. Feel free to take a copy to read about the species and varieties that are around you.

The presentation of the beautiful parks is taken from a text written by Mona Bergius, city gardener in Enköping. Photo: Enköping Municipality

The small triangular park is Enköping's oldest landscaped park. It was built in 1899 as the city's fine room. The Johanna fountain also contributes to the character of the place.

During the winter, the park is dressed in winter garb with frosted grass and winter stands.

Along Enköpingsån there is a park route where you can experience different types of environments. You can walk past the lilac hills, through the walnut grove and look into the Blue Garden with clematis trellis and hop tower. At Åpromenaden, you can also enjoy art and idea gardens created by various designers, from celebrities such as Noel Kingsbury and Piet Oudolf to primary school students. Get inspired and get new ideas for your own garden.

Some practical tips

A park you should definitely not miss is called Drömparken. It is designed by the Dutch garden architect Piet Oudolf and is full of beautiful perennial (perennial) plants. And what about ancient Afzelii plan, Blue Garden or Klosterparken with traces of ancient Franciscan monks?

If you are interested in hearing a real expert tell us about the parks and their vegetation, you can go for a guided tour or book your own guide through the tourist office (Rådhusgatan 3, in the same house as Enköping Museum). During the tour you will learn about the nature of the different parks as well as the background and purpose of the different facilities. The guide also tells about the different plants, plant and management.

The first weekend in September, the Garden Day is arranged in Enköping. NOTE! Canceled 2020 due to covid-19.
