St. Bridget could be the most internationally famous Swede of all time. She is definitely Sweden's most famous saint and was a very influential person in her time (around 1303-1373).
She is perhaps best known for founding the Birgittine Order, which had a monastery in Vadstena in the Middle Ages. At the end of the 16th century, the last nuns were forced to leave the convent, but 1963 saw a comeback in Vadstena when Dutch Birgittine nuns founded St. Birgitta's convent Pax Mariæ. What not many people know is that St. Birgitta, according to information that is not fully confirmed, was born on Finsta farm in Uppland.
This bike tour goes to Finsta and what is called St. Bridget's prayer cave. Tradition has it that Birgitta had her first visions here as a child. Pilgrims began making pilgrimages to the site as early as the Middle Ages.

This bike tour starts at Lilla Torg, outside the tourist office, in central Norrtälje.

You cycle through the commercial area Knutby Torg. Here you can take the opportunity to buy coffee at Roslagsbageriet, Lidl or Willys.

Behind Willys, on the left, the car-free embankment begins towards Finsta. You cycle on a nice gravel road for about 15 km, completely without car traffic.

Stop at Lake Ludden. There is a nice viewpoint right next to the embankment.

Take a detour to Wallby Trädgård and Café Pensé - an oasis for those who want to combine the bike ride with garden inspiration and a well-deserved coffee break in a peaceful environment.

The cave is in a scenic location. There are benches and tables that invite you to take a break. On the other side of road 77 you will find Birgitta's spring and the start of the Birgitta trail - a short hike that connects to the history of the place.
Perfect lunch stop before heading home. Serving classic pizzas, kebabs, salads and grilled dishes. A local favorite.
In Torvalla village, Clara's family farm has a restaurant, farm shop and micro-bakery under one roof. In the farm shop you can find all sorts of small and good things to buy to take home. Please note! Open during the summer.

With an idyllic location by Kyrksjön, Frötuna church dates back to the 12th century. A quiet and historically rich place that is ideal for a break on the bike ride through Roslagen.

Now you're back in Norrtälje. Here you can round off the day with a walk among the city's cozy shops, enjoy a good dinner or just take a relaxing walk along the beautiful Norrtälje River. A perfect end to a rich cycling experience in Roslagen.
The embankment with its fine gravel road up to St. Birgitta's prayer cave is completely car-free, but along the way you cross some smaller country roads.
The round trip back towards Norrtälje follows Gamla Norrtäljevägen on paved country roads, where you share the road with car traffic.
For those who want to avoid cars completely, there is the possibility of cycling the embankment both there and back - a safe and pleasant solution, especially for families with children!
