The bike ride starts at the Tourist Office on Kopparbergsgatan in central Västerås, and this is a ride for you who like to cycle a few miles. According to the route we describe, it is about 30 kilometers easy way to the destination. In other words, a good bike ride back and forth throughout the day. You can also continue on the Mälardalsleden to, for example, Köping or Eskilstuna. Here you can read more about Strömsholm Castle - one of the royal castles in Sweden.

In the month of August you can usually go on a tour of the castle and later in the season you can eat lunch in the castle park and admire the surrounding area with its oaks and beautiful hazel groves.

An experienced cyclist has no problem cycling back to Västerås after a look at Strömsholm's castle. Maybe after a piece of your own lunch bag or a visit to the Market Center or one of the other eateries in Strömsholm.

    Cycling in Västerås

There are several good ways to cycle south down to the water in the cycling city of Västerås. If you start the bike ride at the Tourist Office on Kopparbergsgatan in the center, you can take Koppargatan south towards Vasaparken. Cycle a short distance into the park and take the cycle paths in the direction of Svartån. Then take the cycle path that goes along Hamngatan south (over Södra Ringvägen), go over the small Strandbron, turn right and continue southwest along Sjöhagsvägen.

    Towards Barkarö Church

You then follow the Mälardalsleden on Sjöhagsvägen and after about 4 kilometers you turn left (south) on Johannisbergsvägen and continue cycling on the bike path with the water on your left side. You pass Enhagen-Ekbacken on your left side and after just over 8 kilometers you look for the red Mälardalsleds sign and turn right (east) towards Barkarö church (it says that it is 2 km on the blue road sign).

    Past Frändesta and Tibble

Continue cycling towards Askö, pass Naturskolan's house on the left side and pass. When you turn north towards Näsby and Dingtuna, you cycle a bit on a slightly larger road. Cycle past Frändesta and on through Tibble.

Good to know

This is a bike ride of about 30 kilometers in one direction. If you cycle at a fast pace, it may take about 1.5 hours. If you want to take a few breaks on the road, it takes an estimated 2.5 hours. The landscape is quite flat so it is not a hilly bike ride. The traffic is not intense, but sometimes you share the road with cars that drive at 70 kilometers per hour and there is not much roadside. Children under the age of 12 should not cycle this road. We always recommend that you wear a bicycle helmet.
