Your tour starts at the old school in Hjulsjö, where you will find parking, parking lots, bike wash and a technical course with three tracks. Here you can rent a bike and in the summer also have a coffee at Hjulsjö MTB's small café. Don't miss a look at the beautiful chip-clad timber church before you roll away.
The name Hackhem comes from the ancient people who worked the land with hoes. Here you will find a trident-shaped grave from the Iron Age - a historical imprint that reminds us that people have lived and worked in the area for many hundreds of years.
Grängshyttan is mentioned as early as 1443 and is one of the area's true cultural heritages. There are beautiful mountain farms and an old stone bridge that is well worth a stop. Rastälven rapids down to Lake Sången, a three-kilometer stretch that is one of the county's most impressive rapids.
Here you cycle on the remains of the Bredsjö-Degerfors Railway from 1894. The Bergslag railways were once the lifeblood for transporting iron to the ports. Today, the embankment is a quiet road back towards Hjulsjö - unless you take off towards Slotterberget for even more history and cycling challenges.
Slotterberget was a high-tech mine in its day. There are open-cast mines, a mighty wheel pit and the Venus Passage - an old mine passage. The mine was electrified as early as 1884, with the help of ASEA's founder Jonas Wenström. Today, the area is a fascinating destination where history meets nature.
Kindla is the county's largest contiguous forest area without roads, and here you will find deep forests, charcoal huts, rest areas and a lookout tower on Kindlahöjden. You are not allowed to cycle inside the nature reserve, but a visit on foot is well worth the effort. This is also where one of the highlights of the trail begins - a long, fast-paced downhill run back towards Hjulsjö.
Södra Hyttan is today a cultural meeting place, but iron was produced here from the 17th century until the First World War. Today you will instead find Bergslagen's book flea market with over 1000 shelf meters of books, a café and small creative businesses. A perfect last stop before the embankment leads you back to Hjulsjö.
