Kristianstad

Kristianstad was founded by the Danish king Christian IV in 1614 and was intended as a city for defence, crafts and trade. Today you will find a city center with cozy cafes and restaurants as well as small and large shops. There is also a rich cultural life here and many events throughout the year. In Kristianstad, you will find the Skåne Regional Museum with modern exhibitions about Kristianstad and Skåne, among other things.

One of the city's first and foremost destinations is the Holy Trinity Church, often referred to as the most beautiful Renaissance temple in the Nordics. A short distance from the church, on the other side of Helge å, there is a newer building that has also become a popular destination. Naturum Vattenriket is a visitor center where you can discover and learn more about the biosphere area Kristianstad's Vattenriket. If you follow Helge å out to sea in the bay of Hanö, you end up in the medieval town of Åhus and the coastal strip known as the "Ålakusten" where the white sandy beaches stretch for miles with several sea bathing spots.

Around Kristianstad there are good and varied bike tours. Cycle to the lakes in the north where you experience a hilly landscape with apple orchards and a magical view of the landscape or along the slopes of Linderödsåsen with beech forests and untouched, wild nature. You can also cycle to the rolling slopes of Degeberga. Here you will find the mighty waterfall at Forsakar. A bike ride along the coast of Hanö Bay offers white beaches, pine forests and healthy swimming. When you come to Åhus, you will find medieval history, fantastic ice cream, nice accommodation and activities. Or take the road out to the small picturesque fishing villages such as Landön and Tosteberga. The Kristianstad area has a rich agricultural landscape with many places that offer good food and drink. Even hospitable accommodation facilities are located close to the landscape so you can get a good night's sleep before your next cycling adventure.
