The Pleasure of Ronneby

Welcome to a relaxing and enjoyable cycling adventure in the heart of Blekinge. Here you cycle on car-free, gently winding cycle paths in beautiful surroundings. This bike tour starts from Ronneby, the modern spa town where a health-giving spring was discovered over 300 years ago. The Blekinge landscape is sometimes called the garden of Sweden, with all its colorful vegetation.

You stay in or next to the beautiful Brunnsparken, with a nice view of all the plantings and the old Brunnsvillas. Here you will find the beautiful scented garden with over 700 plants from 50 different species, all carefully selected for their scent, and the more spartanly decorated Japanese garden. Around the park there are walking paths through the park's gardens and past beautiful buildings from the Brunn era. Stop by a cozy café or grab a bite to eat at one of the park's restaurants.

Ronneby has a dramatic history and the city has belonged to Denmark longer than it has been Swedish, which it first became in 1658 at the peace in Roskilde. In 1564, the Swedes and Erik XIV entered Ronneby and the whole city, except the church, was burned down in what is called the "Ronneby carnage". Inside the Holy Cross church is an old church door with carvings made by the Swedish king's men as they tried to enter the church.

Before Midsummer, there are limited opening hours at cafés/restaurants and slightly fewer boat trips.

Day 1 - Discover Ronneby - the modern spa town

1705 opened the first source in Ronneby and in 1727 the source was discovered which became the reason why Ronneby Brunn became the country's leading health resort. Here the Swedish and international society lived well life during the 18th and 19th centuries and became, one can presume, healthy thanks to the healthy water and the beautiful surroundings. And now it's your turn! Here is a room waiting for you and the award-winning park offers all kinds of experiences in the form of gardens, exhibitions and much more.

We recommend that you start with the small town round which is about 10 km long and walk on cycle paths along the Ronnebyån down to the harbor and Karön. Perfect if you want to take a dip in the ocean. Here you will also find Brunnsbadet with its water slides, tennis courts right next door and a cozy playground for the little ones. The evening ends with a stroll in the old cultural district and dinner at one of the city's nice restaurants.

Today the bike tour goes through beautiful oak landscapes and offers castle environments and exciting ancient remains. The area has been an important meeting place for thousands of years. In the old village school there is Susanne Demåne who shares her art and her beautiful garden.

You can dine in rural idyll. Cycling on Gärestad city street to the farm shop Äggaboden / restaurant Vikakillan gives a feeling that you have been moved to Astrid Lindgren's Bullerbyn. Here you can buy locally produced goods from the area's growers and food craftsmen and enjoy a good meal at the lodge. Afterwards you cycle to Ronneby for a restful night's sleep.

Day 3 - Cycle to the sea - stay an extra night?

After breakfast, you decide if you want to see even more of the area from the bike saddle or scatter yourself with other activities in the city before you go home. In Brunnsparken, for example, you can experience music and entertainment and on Sundays the flea market attracts thousands of visitors.

Bicycle trips we recommend, for example, are to Saxemara. You cycle on cycle paths all the time, about 18 km, and well in Saxemara it fits perfectly with a moment's break and a dip in the sea. Feel free to visit the old boatyard where you build common boats in the traditional way. If you would like to stay an extra night, you can book a sauna raft and enjoy the tranquility of a genuine cultural environment.
