In this cycling package you get to take part in an exciting history with French Cistercian monks, Nydala Abbey Church, Kristian Tyrann's bloody journey through Småland and the magical Eksjöhovgård castle ruins on an island outside Sävsjö. But also stately gardens, cultural monuments, cozy cafes and shops to stop by. You stay for three nights at the homely Best Western Vrigstad Hotel with an inn feeling and nice pool area.

Day 1 - Arrival and discovery on Småland dirt roads

You arrive in the cozy little town of Vrigstad and check into your room. Once you've settled in, there's a nice tour that's perfect as a warm-up. The tour is a mini adventure that gives you a taste of the Småland forest, the many meadows and the sparkling lakes. On this particular tour, you have a great chance to see the King of the Forest up close - the moose. Maybe even more than once if you're lucky!

Stop by Norrsjön or Sörsjön near the cozy little village of Hetseryd and you may see one or two crayfish crawling around the rocks in the water. The lakes are very rich in crayfish and the "red gold" that is eaten mostly during the month of August, gilds many crayfish dishes around Småland and the rest of the country. A great start to your Småland cycling adventure!

Why not take a dip before dinner? The cozy swimming area at Slättsjön is a two-minute drive from the hotel. The evening ends with a good locally produced dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2 - New York in the Småland Highlands

The day starts with a delicious breakfast before a wonderful day on the bike saddle. Today it has become time for a real Roll's Royce round called the New York round. You may wonder if it is possible to cycle all the way to New York on the Småland gravel roads? Yes, maybe! You'll definitely get an answer to why it's called that. Today you can really pick the raisins out of the cake and enjoy the present, past and future at the same time. From ancient castle ruins and medieval churches to cozy cafés and sparkling lakes, you'll experience it all.

You can enjoy your cycling lunch either at the ancient Eksjöhovgård castle ruins or the cozy Komstad mill. We also recommend that you make a classic coffee stop at Forssa Kvarnagård and Melins konditori. After a nice day on the bike, you roll home to enjoy a well-composed 3-course dinner. If you do not want to cycle so far, it is fine to shorten today's tour.

Day 3 - Among donuts & manufacturers

After breakfast, it's time to head out on the Monka Trail. A bike ride where you get to experience a wonderful mix of Småland history and nostalgia at its best. So hop on the saddle, put on your helmet and roll out on the Småland gravel!

A late lunch is perfect at Nydala Abbey Church, where peace and harmony quickly return. Satisfied, happy and filled with wonderful experiences, you are more than worth enjoying a good and cozy dinner. Perhaps you top the evening with a ”Gravel Rider”, the hotel's own composed fresh bike drink.

Day 4 - Time to head home

You can take the train or bus to Sävsjö station. From there it is about 10 km by car to Vrigstad. The hotel can arrange a private transfer on request and at an additional cost.

Nice experience, but really did not match the description when booking. Would also have liked less disposables as you come back to the same place every night!

The bike maps we got at the hotel were hard to follow. We gave up after 1 mile out of 3. We had downloaded the GPX files and followed them. Some stretches were difficult to cycle, too rough stone paving, or forest road best suited for forest machines. Has Sweden by bike test cycled the routes? The serving staff were friendly and service oriented but too inexperienced. Should have had an older supervisor. Overall we are satisfied with the trip.

We are very pleased with the service and treatment. The food and the chef with staff were absolutely superb 😍. The room was large and good with space for our bags. It would have been 5+ if the pool area was ready.
