The journey begins in Jönköping - the charming matchstick town on the southern shore of Lake Vättern. On arrival, there is time to discover the city's industrial heritage. A visit to the Match Museum is highly recommended, a unique place that tells the story of how a small match put Jönköping on the world map.

In the evening, a welcome dinner awaits you at the hotel's pub, The Bishop Arms, where you can relax and enjoy good food. After dinner, a welcome meeting will be held, where you will receive all practical information about the tour, access to your bike and a review of the digital map that guides you during the journey around Vättern. After a good breakfast, it's time to start the bike ride north towards Hjo, a picturesque wooden town beautifully located on the western shore of Lake Vättern. Today's stage takes you through Hökensås nature reserve - a tranquil landscape with sparkling lakes, deep pine forests and plenty of space for breaks and nature experiences.

Along the way there are several nice places to stop, perhaps for a coffee, a rest or a refreshing dip in one of the many forest lakes.

When you reach Hjo, check-in at the hotel and some well-deserved rest await you. In the evening, a good dinner is served at the hotel restaurant. If you want to end the day in silence, a walk down to the water is recommended -bVättern is literally a stone's throw away, and its calm waves put an end to a rich first cycling day.

Day 3 - Towards history in Karlsborg

After a refreshing breakfast, you leave Hjo and cycle north along the western shore of Lake Vättern. Today's stage is shorter, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the road and the landscape. You arrive in Karlsborg in time for lunch, which is served at the hotel. After lunch, you'll have the rest of the day free to explore this charming town where the Göta Canal meets Lake Vättern.

A must for history buffs is a visit to Karlsborg Fortress, an impressive structure from the early 19th century. Here you can get a sense of Sweden's military history and, if you wish, book a guided tour directly on site.

Before nightfall, take a walk to the harbor area, where the Göta Canal ends. Watching the boats being locked through the canal is both a calming and fascinating experience. A peaceful end to a day of history.

Soon you'll reach Motala, a city with a strong cycling culture and the start and finish of Vätternrundan. Here you can stop at the finish area, stroll in the city's lush parks and take a look at the Göta Canal locks where canal traffic moves quietly through the city.

The journey then continues south along Lake Vättern to Vadstena, a historic gem with strong links to both Saint Birgitta and Swedish medieval history. There is time to visit the impressive Renaissance castle, stroll along the cobbled alleys or sit down on the promenade. The evening ends with a tasty dinner at the hotel, and for those who want to put extra gold edge on the stay, it is possible to buy a SPA package. Perfect for tired legs after the day's cycling.

The day begins by cycling further south along the eastern shore of Lake Vättern, with Omberg as a powerful backdrop. The mythical mountain offers incredible viewpoints, winding forest roads and quiet glades. Perfect for a short hike or a visit to Ellen Keys Strand, one of Sweden's most iconic homes from the turn of the century.

The journey then continues to Gränna, a town full of small-town charm, history - and of course candy canes. Here you can stroll through the steep cobbled alleyways, visit a candy cane factory and perhaps hear the story of Amalia Erikson, the enterprising woman behind the origins of the candy cane. You can also discover the story of engineer André and his daring balloon expedition to the North Pole.

In the evening, a dinner awaits you at the hotel, prepared by their award-winning chef - a culinary highlight after an eventful day. Before retiring, a walk down to the harbor at sunset is recommended. End the day with a locally produced ice cream from Grenna Glass, a sweet ending to another unforgettable stage around Lake Vättern.

After a short ferry ride from Gränna, a quiet cycling experience awaits on the island, which with its smooth roads, oak landscape and historical remains almost feels created for cycling.

Here you can explore ruins, castles and castle parks at your leisure, taking in the tranquil atmosphere of a landscape that is both rich in history and unusually flat - not a hill in sight! Once you've returned to the mainland, the journey continues along Småland's rolling countryside, often referred to as 'Småland's Tuscany', with its open vistas, leafy avenues and small farms.

Back in Jönköping, a well-deserved farewell dinner awaits, a great opportunity to share experiences and memories from the past week. Then a good night's sleep before it's time to check out and start the journey home, filled with impressions from an unforgettable week around Vättern.
