Experience a fantastic 6-day cycling trip through the landscape of Sörmland's pearls, where rolling forests, sparkling lakes, and coastal landscapes meet at both Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. You cycle through picturesque little communities that feel like something out of a fairy tale.

The journey starts and ends in Stockholm, the Venice of the North, and along the way you stay in carefully selected, charming hotels and Bed & Breakfasts. The route offers a delightful mix of city life, the barren cliffs of the archipelago and historical sights such as castles and manor houses, as well as idyllic rural views. The adventure ends with an atmospheric steamboat ride across the sparkling waters of Lake Mälaren. Please note that the steamboat does not run May-September, and a private transfer will therefore be arranged instead.

All accommodation has a private bathroom with shower and toilet. The bike ride goes through easy, partly hilly terrain, and your luggage is transported smoothly between the accommodations, so you can enjoy the trip to the fullest. The package can be tailored to your wishes, for example without including overnight stay in Stockholm. It is also possible to cycle between Trosa-Mariefred (Day 4) instead of paddling through Marviken. Please specify any requests in the booking form.

Children's rates (11-18 years) are SEK 7,160 for one child (extra bed in parents' room) and SEK 10,600/child for two children (sharing a double room).

Day 1 - Stockholm and Nationalstadsparken

The boutique hotel Hotel Rex (or Hotel Hellstens Malmgård)
30 km
cycling-stockholm-sweden-by-bike

The cycling journey begins in our capital city, where you can independently explore Nationalstadsparken by bike – a green oasis adjacent to the city, where oak and beech forests, open meadows, and water coexist with cultural heritage. Visit Djurgården and take in the views from 155 meters up at the Kaknästornet, or explore some of the city's top museums, like the Technical and Ethnographic Museums.

Enjoy a bike ride along Djurgårdskanalen, stopping for a snack in Rosendals Garden and admiring the views of the water towards Södermalm and the Old Town. Continue north towards Hagaparken, where Crown Princess Victoria and her family reside in Haga Palace. Follow car-free gravel roads along Brunnsviken up to Ulriksdal Palace and its beautiful park.

Stockholm's restaurant scene is vast, offering something for every taste. After a delicious dinner, a good night's sleep awaits you at one of our chosen hotels: either the cozy boutique Hotel Rex in the heart of the city or the manor-like Hotel Hellstens Malmgård in Södermalm.

Day 2 - Stendörren Nature Reserve, Nynäs Castle, and Trosa

After breakfast and a transfer from Stockholm, you will hike into Stendörren Nature Reserve, an enchanting archipelago area where low rocky islands are connected by suspension bridges. Here, you can enjoy a delightful swim in the crystal-clear Baltic Sea waters. Then, the adventure continues with cycling along small roads in the varied landscape, embraced by forests, meadows, and lakes.

The 17th-century Nynäs Castle is worth a stop. Here, you'll find beautiful surroundings with walking trails through a nature reserve, or you can take a guided tour of the castle. The Orangery offers both a restaurant and a café for a well-deserved break.

Continue your bike ride and pass the beautiful Sandvik beach before reaching today's destination, the picturesque coastal town of Trosa. In summer, the town attracts sailors and tourists who enjoy the charming atmosphere. You stay at Två Små Svin B&B, in beautiful bright rooms in the mild yellow wooden houses - right on the canal.

Day 3 - Trosa, Tullgarn Castle and overnight stay at Södertuna Castle

Södertuna Castle, Gnesta

After breakfast, you can explore Trosa with its beautiful wooden houses and take a walk along the canal pathway. The town offers many pleasant restaurants for a delicious lunch before continuing your bike ride towards Tullgarn Palace. This royal palace dates back to the 13th century and is beautifully located right by the water. The extensive park is magnificent, and here you will find Tullgarns Inn, Stable Café, and Orangery.

Your bike ride continues towards Södertuna Castle with a beautiful 18th-century atmosphere and a fantastic location on a small island in Frösjön, surrounded by a beautiful garden. Here dinner and overnight stay await. The rooms are located in the two wings that belong to the manor.

Day 4 - Lakes, Canoeing, and Historical Castles (Gnesta-Mariefred)

Skomakargården B&B (or Röda Magasinet B&B)
Breakfast and lunch
26 km and 9 km of paddling (or 54 km of cycling)
lake-climbing2-cycling-sweden-by-bike

In the morning, you will cycle from Gnesta to Laxne along the beautiful shore of Klämmingen, where you can stop for a dip in the crystal-clear water. As you pass through the small village of Laxne, there is an opportunity to take a break and enjoy some refreshments.

In Laxne, you can switch to a canoe and paddle through the winding lake system of Marviken all the way to Åkers Styckebruk. Here, you can take a lunch break and admire the outstanding landscape. The area is distinguished by its unique geology, with the lake Marviken bordered by impressive 50-meter-high cliffs after the mountain was once split in two.

If you prefer to continue by bike, the road leads you through the Marviken lake system and on to the idyllic town of Mariefred. This historic town from 1605 offers narrow, winding streets, colorful wooden houses and the magnificent Gripsholm Castle, one of the region's most important castles. After an adventurous day, a comfortable night awaits at a cozy Bed & Breakfast in the heart of Mariefred.

Day 5 - Mariefred, Castle Visit, and Cake Party

The boutique hotel Hotel Rex (or Hotel Hellstens Malmgård)
Breakfast

Today, you can enjoy a day in the idyllic Mariefred, founded in the early 17th century and famous for its small alleys and pastel-colored wooden houses. The magnificent Gripsholm Castle houses the Swedish State Portrait Collection with over 4,000 works, where visitors can follow the changes in portrait art from the 16th century to the present day.

Cycle leisurely along the shores of Lake Mälaren and through the rural landscape towards Taxinge Castle. Hopefully, the cycling has worked up your appetite, as a lavish cake buffet with 65 varieties to choose from awaits you here. Take your time and enjoy the pastries. Probably full, you pedal back to Mariefred, or you choose a historical mode of transportation and take the steam train back.

In the afternoon, take a steamboat from Mariefred back to Stockholm across the beautiful waters of Lake Mälaren. During the 3.5-hour journey, you can enjoy the view and relax in the sun on deck. Please note that the steamboat does not operate between May and September; during these months, a transfer for the equivalent distance back to Stockholm is offered instead.

Back in the capital, you will stay at one of our selected hotels: the charming boutique Hotel Rex in the city center or the manor-like Hotel Hellstens Malmgård on Södermalm. Both hotels guarantee a pleasant and memorable stay in beautiful Stockholm.

Oh, we had a wonderful biking holidays in Sweden! Carmen did a fantastic job in arranging the trip in places we would have never found by ourselves and even bringing us togehther with most interesting, welcoming and fascinating people (Mälby manor)! And she managed to arrange very different experiences in this short time (different biking roads, canoe, even an old ship). We did not want our biking holidays to end and would have enjoyed more days in Swedish countryside. Now we will consider coming back next year. Carmen is definitey a person to trust that ones holiday will be organized in a superb level for an affordable price, this we know now for sure. Thank You!!!

4.7

Carmen was a wonderful host and organizer. Everything was superbly explained and organized. The biking experience was wonderful, in the forest and on beautiful roads. The canoeing experience was also fantastic, as was the steamboat trip back to Stockholm. The whole family loved this adventure!

Sometimes something difficult to find the right way. Description and map sometimes did not quite match. Good with a canoe day as a change.
