Lots to do by bike in Smedjebacken

Dalarna has a special place in the hearts of many Swedes. In the southern part of the landscape, Villa Gladtjärn hotel and camping is beautifully situated by a fish-rich lake in areas that invite to expeditions by bike. Strömsholm's canal also runs here. We asked Alex Baier who works at Villa Gladtjärn to come up with some initial tips on what a cyclist can come up with during a visit.

You run the magnificent Villa Gladtjärn which is a bicycle-friendly accommodation. Can you give some tips on where to cycle when staying with you?

You can cycle around Lake Norra Barken, up into the forest on paved paths and along the beautiful harbor inside Smedjebacken. There is an incredible amount to see!

Are there any hidden gems to discover in the area?

Smedjebacken and nearby villages have a lot to offer, everything from beaches, caves, lookout points to fishing, breweries, coffee shops, restaurants and more. At the hotel we also rent out canoes for those who want to see the lake on their own.

What opportunities are there when you have cycled a whole day and want to relax? What can you offer a tired but happy cyclist?

Villa Gladtjärn hotel and camping has a large range of services and experiences. Why not rent the sauna down by the lake and jump straight out of the sauna pier? We have two canoes for rent, a large lawn where we sometimes have helicopter rides if you pre-book. There is a private beach with kiosk and bar, restaurant with a large veranda for those who want to sit outdoors and playroom for the youngest guests.
