In this cycling package you get a lot of canal feeling and a visit to Sweden's reserve capital Karlsborg with the city's stately fortress. We guarantee a fascinating view of life both on and off the canal. The bike package includes many beautiful bike routes along the Göta Canal and Lake Viken.
You will be part of a historic journey along the Göta Canal - Sweden's largest cultural-historical building. The package is suitable for those who like to cycle a little longer distances with a little more hilly terrain and then end the days with nice food and comfortable accommodation.
Some parts of the route run along the same path in both directions, including between Töreboda and Sjötorp and to and from Karlsborg. It is a scenic route, and many people appreciate experiencing it from both directions - the light and nature change during the day. Feel free to take the train to Töreboda. Convenient and easy.

Day 1 - Cycle along the Göta Canal and pass 19 locks

The cycling package starts in Töreboda, an ideal starting point for those arriving by train. From there you cycle along the Göta Canal past 19 locks to Sjötorp on the shores of Lake Vänern. To immerse yourselves in the construction and history of the canal, you can visit the canal museum located at Sjötorp harbor.
When you feel satisfied and satisfied, the bike ride turns back towards Töreboda. Here you stay at the family Pensionat Prästgården, located in a pleasant environment and equipped with all modern amenities such as WiFi, TV and private bathrooms. The rooms are newly renovated in a tasteful manor house style with beautifully sanded old wooden floors. Dinner is served at the nearby restaurant in Töreboda.
Day 2 - Idyllic Tåtorp and the mill village Forsvik

After a hearty breakfast at Pensionat Prästgården, the bike ride continues towards today's goal - historic Karlsborg on the shores of Lake Vättern. The day offers cycling on both gravel and asphalt roads along the Göta Canal past the scenic Lanthöjden and on to Tåtorp by Lake Viken. Here you will find one of the canal's two hand-cranked locks, a fascinating insight into the technology of bygone times. Cycle to the mill town of Forsvik, known as Sweden's first industrial town, where a water-powered sawmill was established as early as the 15th century.
The journey takes you on to Karlsborg, which was once the reserve capital of Sweden. Here you will spend the night and have dinner at Hotell Rödesund.
Day 3 - History, Nature, and Relaxation in Karlsborg

Enjoy the buffet breakfast at the hotel. Today will be a rest day on your cycling vacation and the opportunity to recover. Take the opportunity to walk through the idyllic Karlsborg, located between Vättern and Bottensjön in scenic surroundings.
A guided tour of Karlsborg's impressive fortress is highly recommended, taking you on an exciting journey back to the 19th century. This grand fortress, whose construction spanned 88 years and the reigns of four kings, was not fully completed until 1907.
If the weather permits, take the opportunity to take a refreshing dip. With water around almost all of Karlsborg, there are many swimming opportunities. In the evening, dinner awaits at the hotel and a pleasant evening in charming Karlsborg.
Day 4 - Back to Töreboda

After breakfast, you cycle back towards Töreboda on asphalt and gravel roads that take you around Lake Viken and on to Töreboda. Feel free to take short breaks at scenic places along the way. A lovely stop with a beautiful view of Lake Viken is at Beateberg's hexagonal church. Then follow the canal from Tåtorp to Töreboda where the journey ends.
Confirmation and invoice are sent directly from the local tour operator. No payment is made to Sweden by Bike.

An end goal was Ida's bridge. Main meal at the restaurant was very good. The accommodation was good but the breakfast was poor, old dry bread poor supply among other things. Day four we were going to pick up our packed lunch, but no staff understood what we were talking about. After a while we got a salad box with salmon that was raw. Pensionat Prästgården was all excellent with an excellent breakfast and well-prepared packed lunches. The trip between Töreboda and Karlsborg required more than a 7-speed bike, which should be pointed out in the advertising brochure. The visit to Karlsborg Fortress was interesting and rewarding.
