Cycling & camping in southern Öland World Heritage

Discover southern Öland by bike, a safe and playful adventure for the whole family. For two or three nights, you stay in comfortable luxury tents in carefully selected locations, and cycle between 12-25 km per day through open landscapes, forest groves and the unique Stora Alvaret. A total of 40-70 km, depending on how many nights you choose.

The first campsite is in a forest grove on the famous Stora Alvaret, where you will get help setting up the tent and a simple introduction to outdoor cooking. After that, a new atmospheric campsite awaits each evening. Most of the equipment is included, and if there's anything you need, you can buy it on site. The bike package is adapted for families with children 7-13 years old with reasonably long stages, plenty of breaks and focus on the experience together.

Just 100 meters from the bike rental in Mörbylånga is Hotell Magasin 1, a nice hotel with good food. Maybe you should book before or after you have cycled and camped.

Day 1 - Arrival to southern Öland and start of the adventure

You arrive in Mörbylånga on southern Öland, where bikes and tents are waiting for you - conveniently located right by the bus station. It is easy to travel here by bus from Kalmar, and for those who come by car there is free parking nearby.

On site, you will receive your booked bikes, bike trailer and all the equipment needed for the tent adventure. We go through the equipment together so that you feel safe before you set off. When everything is packed and ready, it's time to cycle away - the adventure can begin.

Overnight at the famous Stora Alvaret, where you will get help setting up the tent and an introduction to outdoor cooking.

Day 2 - Easy start and cycling towards the sea

You have plenty of time in the morning to fix breakfast, pack up the tent and maybe take a quiet walk out over the vast Alvaret before you cycle on. Today's stage is short and easy to cycle, just over 10 km, to the next campsite near the water in Kalmarsund.

Along the way you pass Allégården in Kastlösa, a perfect stop to refill water. Once there, a beautifully located campsite with firewood, barbecue area and outdoor toilet awaits you nearby. Here you can also take a refreshing dip in Kalmarsund. Now you set up the tent and cook on the gas stove on your own. Safe, easy and part of the adventure.

Day 3 - The big discovery day on southern Öland

If you have chosen the package with two tent nights and three cycling days, the journey today goes back towards Mörbylånga. You have access to the bikes all day, until 18:30, so there is plenty of time for breaks and excursions along the way.

This is the longest stage of the tour, about 25 km, but it runs on easy roads in beautiful surroundings. When you pass Mörbylånga, you can fill up on drinking water and shop in the well-stocked grocery store. Then you cycle north on a nice cycle path that takes you past Haga Park, with a beach and lively windsurfing life, and further past the bird paradise Beijershamn.

Today's destination is the campsite in the Vickleby deciduous forest, a lush and peaceful place with a barbecue area and an outdoor sauna. Nearby are several exciting excursion destinations - including the bird towers at Beijershamn with the two-kilometer-long pier, and Karlevistenen, one of Sweden's most famous rune stones, about three kilometers north along the trail.

Day 4 - Last leg back to Mörbylånga

After breakfast, it's time to roll back towards Mörbylånga. From the campsite you cycle north and after just over a kilometer the road splits. Here you turn right and join the paved cycle path between Färjestaden and Mörbylånga, an easy and safe route all the way back.

If you want to make the day a little longer and extra memorable, you can choose an alternative route via Vickleby, about 18 km. Here you cycle through Öland's perhaps most beautiful village street and can take the opportunity to visit the well-known craft school Capellagården. For those who are used to cycling, it is then possible to continue on the country road with a nice view of the fertile Mörbylånga valley. From Resmo, a lovely downhill awaits, which ends the adventure in the best way, back in Mörbylånga.
