Here, the ovens have been in operation since 1742 and you are welcome to view genuine Swedish craftsmanship up close.

A breakfast buffet is served each morning. In the immediate area around the hostel / B&B there are excellent walking areas and good fishing waters.

You cycle at your own pace along village roads and old country lanes with low traffic, but there is cycling for shorter distances on busier roads to get to and from the low-traffic road network. Map and detailed route description included in the package.

Day 1 - Glass factory environments, bathing lakes and Småland wilderness

Målerås hostel B&B
Packed lunch and evening meal
33 km

The cycle tour winds through typical Småland forests and you cycle on cozy small roads (about 80% gravel, 20% asphalt). Part of the route you will ride on Kostabanan's old railway bank. The forests dignify in late summer and autumn of mushrooms and berries. If you miss the moose, the king of the forest, during the bike ride itself, there is a 1.3 kilometer long walk along a forest fence where you can get close to the world's largest deer from a lookout tower.

At Kosta glassworks, you can follow the production of Kosta's products in the light of the furnaces, from the melting of the glass mass to the actual glass blowing and grinding and painting of the glass objects. Kosta also has 20,000 square meters of shopping for the whole family with 200 different international brands at Kosta Outlet. Adjacent to the store there are also pleasant cafes and eateries where you can gather energy for the bike ride back to Målerås. In Kosta you can also visit Glashusen, a townhouse with five separate houses designed by Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) one of Sweden's foremost furniture creators.

At Målerås Bistro you can have lunch, and in summer also an evening meal. From a panoramic window you can see straight into the glassblowing workshop.

Day 2 - Breakfast and Departure

Breakfast

After a good night's sleep and breakfast, it's time to check out. Before the journey home, you can take the opportunity to shop for crystal products, leather goods, and jewelry. Some of Sweden's most skilled glassblowers are represented in the Glassblowing Room.

The Craft House houses several local artisans under one roof. Here you can find everything from pottery, sheepskin, jewelry and marmalade. It's also worth a visit before heading home!

Absolutely wonderful reception and service. The bike ride itself was nice but a bit one-sided. However, we had a lot to talk about and it was easy to follow the map. Good stop in Kosta with the opportunity for food / coffee / shopping.

4.5

So cozy and thoughtful bike package. We felt so welcome. Quiet and comfortable at the hostel in Målerås with a very welcoming host. Adequate breakfast with good travel food and good bikes. Good and informative instruction with bike map with suggestions for different rounds. Can really recommend this bike package as a cozy excursion.

3.5

A pleasant tour in a beautiful landscape. Opportunity to stop and look at sights or glassworks at regular intervals. Many places to have coffee along the way but in the pre-season there are not so many places that are open. /Anne L

4.8

Easy cycling on surprisingly fine dirt roads. The rental bikes were better than the ones we have at home. An extra plus for detailed map so it was easy to find the right one. Successful activity.
