This is the bike package for you who want to discover Fårö and the beautiful northern part of Gotland, the fantastic nature and the mysterious rauks. Gotland is Sweden's largest island with a coastline of almost 800 km. The island's history goes way back in time and in Visby, narrow cobbled streets, pack houses and church ruins testify to bygone times. Here, cycling is easy, the landscape flat and the sea ever present.
During your journey to Fårö, you'll pass by attractions such as Lummelunda Caves and Krusmyntagården. Be sure not to miss the chance to take a refreshing dip in the stunning "Blue Lagoon" along the way.
The cycling vacation starts and ends with a night at Best Western Solhem Hotel in Visby. You pick up the bikes at Visby Hyrcykel, at Österport (Ringmuren). Some routes are busier during the high season, especially near the larger towns.
It is possible to shorten the cycling package if you do not want to cycle so many days. In this case, enter your preferences in the booking form.
Day 1 - Arrival Visby
Just outside Visby's well-preserved ring wall from the 13th century, in the beautiful Palissadparken, you'll find Best Western Solhem Hotel. Once you've settled in, it's time to explore the World Heritage Site of Visby. The city is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Sweden and offers a unique atmosphere with its narrow alleys, ruins, churches, and the mighty ring wall. There are lovely parks to relax in, and the sea, right next to the city, invites you to take a swim. Take a walk along the beach promenade and enjoy a spectacular sunset before strolling into the city to enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the cozy restaurants.
Day 2 - Visby-Lummelunda-Lärbro
After indulging in a delicious breakfast buffet, the adventure begins. The bike tour heads north from Visby, with the ring wall on your right and the sea on your left. Just at the beginning, you pass by Almedalen Park, the center of the annual political week. On the way, you'll also come across Snäckgärdsbadet, a picturesque spot with beautiful beaches and piers. While you're there, don't miss the chance to stop at Krusmyntagården for a coffee break and a leisurely stroll through the herb garden.
Located about 13 km north of Visby, Lummelundagrottan is a must-visit destination. You can take a guided tour and marvel at the large cave chambers with their mirror-like lakes, fascinating fossils, and stunning stalactites and stalagmites. The waterfall at the entrance of the cave was used as a source of power for a long time. Over the centuries, the site has been home to a grain mill, water saw, and even a complete ironworks. Be sure to take a moment to admire the impressive water wheel and the historic buildings.
Take a moment to sit down at a beautiful spot by the sea and enjoy your packed lunch. If you feel energized, you can take an extra tour of about 15 km to Häftingsklint and then to Hagvards and Medebys Raukar. Don't miss the chance to take a refreshing dip in the sea before continuing your journey north towards Lärbro Vandrarhem, where dinner and accommodation await you.
Day 3 - Lärbro-Fårö
As you cycle on charming small roads that wind along the coast, you'll reach the lively little village of Kappelshamn, situated right by the water. You'll pass an old quarry, now filled with refreshing turquoise blue water, and known as the "Blue Lagoon". At Fårösund, you'll take the ferry across the strait to Fårö, which is today's destination. The ferry ride only takes 8 minutes and is free.
Now two wonderful days await to explore both nature and culture on Fårö. The bike ride goes towards Sudersviken. Enjoy the beautiful beach meadows and the idyllic limestone houses along the way. Don't miss visiting the Bergman Center, which is dedicated to Ingmar Bergman - one of the greatest directors in film history. The overnight stay is at Sudersand Resort.
Day 4 - Fårö
Get ready to explore Fårö! The island has several areas with impressive rauks, majestic limestone formations created by the sea. Some recommended rauk areas include Gamle hamn, Digerhuvud, and Langhammars. And don't miss out on visiting Helgumannen fishing village, a truly enchanting place!
On the northeastern part of Fårö you will encounter a different kind of nature with hilly heights, open pine forest and magnificent sand dunes. Nice bathing spots are easy to find, Ekeviken is one example. Visit Fårö Lighthouse, which is located at the far end of the island, and stop by Ebbes. They sell clothes, shoes, souvenirs and sheepskin of course. Take a ride on your bike to Crêperie Tati at Kutens Bensin, it is a must when you are on Fårö. At the nice Fårögårdens Bed & Breakfast, the overnight stay takes place.
Day 5 - Fårö-Slite
After a delicious breakfast, it's time to bid farewell to Fårö and hop on the ferry to Fårösund. From there, continue your bike ride to Slite Strandby, your destination for the day. For a unique experience, consider cycling to Bungenäs, which may be one of the trendiest destinations in Sweden. You'll be surrounded by the sea, old industrial buildings, and remnants of a limestone quarry. There are lagoon-like water pools that shift in beautiful light green shades to add to the scenery. Don't forget to visit Bunge Outdoor Museum while you're in the area!
At Slite Strandby, accommodation and dinner await you. You have free access to the pool and sauna, which can be nice after a long day of cycling. Sit down and collect your impressions from the day while looking out over the sea and archipelago. You will stay in a cottage and have dinner at the restaurant next to the sea.
Day 6 - Slite-Visby
Today marks the final day of cycling on Gotland for this trip. There are multiple road options to choose from on your return to Visby. If you're feeling energized, consider taking a detour to Roma, known for its impressive monastery ruins. At Roma Kungsgård, you can explore a variety of crafts, purchase high-quality products from Gotland, indulge in a coffee break, join a guided tour, or simply take a leisurely stroll through the historical surroundings. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Roma glassworks, which offers a factory outlet, as well as Gotländska Rum, a shop featuring art and design exhibits showcasing the work of local artists and designers.
Once back in Visby, check in at the Best Western Solhem Hotel and head out to explore the bustling streets of the city for one last fun evening.
Day 7 - Back in Visby
After enjoying a delicious breakfast buffet, you might want to spend some time shopping in Visby. The city boasts numerous excellent shops selling locally crafted goods and food items.
