On the island of sun and wind, Öland, a world of adventure opens up for cyclists! The nature is not only strikingly beautiful but also full of history and local crafts. You can explore old fishing ports, charming farm shops and admire the open views that surround you. With carefully selected hotels and experiences, you can experience southern Öland's varied landscape by bike.

UNESCO has designated the southern part of Öland a World Heritage Site, with its unique limestone formations and special flora and fauna that set it apart from the rest of Sweden. Here you will find everything from the barren Stora Alvaret to the fertile farmlands, the beach meadows that have been grazed since ancient times and the picturesque row villages that have remained unchanged over the years. This is a 5-day cycling package on southern Öland with good bikes, food and accommodation at some of southern Öland's best hotels.

The bike ride is mostly on paved bike paths and country roads. A total of 10 km is on gravel roads. When it is not high season, the cycling takes place in a quiet traffic environment, but you can expect to share the roadway with tractors, motorhomes, cows and sheep.

Visit the famous Eketorps Borg or the magical Södra Udden with its large pastures for sheep, cows and deer. There is also one of Europe's best birdwatching locations and Sweden's highest lighthouse, Långe Jan. Despite tired bike legs, the 198 steps up to the lighthouse are well worth the view around the southernmost tip of Öland!

In Grönhögen you will find a charming little community with a golf course, ICA shop, café and restaurant. Take a dip in the deep, turquoise limestone quarry if you dare. Return to Gammalsbygården for another good night's sleep and a tasty three-course dinner.

Day 4 - Cycling on the eastern side in the footsteps of history

You then follow winding roads through Mittlandsskogen, one of Europe's largest continuous deciduous forests. At the edge of the forest you will find the research station Station Linné, world famous for its research on insects in particular.

The fourth night you sleep either at Hotell Skansen in Färjestaden or at Eksgården in Gårdby. Both places serve a nice 3-course dinner. In Färjestaden, you can take an evening walk in the harbor with a view of the Öland Bridge at sunset. In Gårdby you can feel the calm atmosphere on the east side in an active agricultural environment.

Day 5 - Vickleby nature reserve and Sweden's most beautiful village street

Breakfast and lunch to go
About 30 km

From Färjestaden to Mörbylånga there is a nice cycle path. Take the opportunity to admire one of Sweden's most famous rune stones, the Karlevi stone. It is possible to take the small roads through the beautiful Vickleby nature reserve and Beijershamn with its fine bird sanctuary.

Vickleby where the famous craft school Capellagården and "Sweden's most beautiful village street" is well worth a detour. The bikes are returned no later than 18:30 at Ölands Cykeluthyrning in Mörbylånga.

Overall the trip was pretty good. We had fairly bad luck with the weather and one of the bikes had puncture in rain but the replacement bike came up fast. One of the hotels was big weird ( issues with payment and they did not give all of our luggage to be carried by the company to our next stop for some reason ) but the others were brilliant.

Reply from the operator

Thank you for the review and glad you had a nice experience despite the bad weather and flat tire, as well as some confusion with one of the hotels. We have sorted out the misunderstandings with them so that everything will work fine going forward.

Best regards Eva

If you want to combine bicycle tour with fantastic accommodation, this might be something for you. We started from Mörbylängan, where we spend the first night. The location is really good (next to the bicycle rental) and the accommodation is agreeable. After biking for one day, we got an absolute treat: Gammalsbygårdens gästgiveri! What a place! The food was fantastic and the wine cellar felt as a singularity. Combined with extreme friendliness of the hosts, this was the highlight of the trip. The last night we spent at Eksgården, really unique place where we enjoyed an excellent BBQ (on Wednesdays). The biking brought us to the southernmost point of the island, where we climbed the 197 steps to get to the top of the tallest lighthouse in the country. Well worth doing. Bring cash with you,

Good bikes and helpful and flexible service. Nice bike routes that we had not found ourselves. We were well taken care of everywhere and are very satisfied.

4.8

Very good bikes, well organized nice accommodation and a lovely dining experience. Most stretches nice with an exception for a boring stretch of country road after Gammalsby

4.7

We are very happy with the trip! Nice bikes (electric and touring), nice bike paths, fresh accommodation and high class meals. Highly recommended!

4.8

We had rented electric bikes. However, the batteries were meant for a distance of max. 4.5-5 miles. We thought that was a bit of a shame; we therefore did not dare to bet on a longer distance, although one was included in our bike package. Otherwise we were very satisfied.

Reply from the operator

Hello and thank you for bringing this to our attention! We will send extra batteries in the future just in case.
