Köping is located at the innermost bay of Lake Mälaren. The Westman surroundings are characterized by a centuries-old history of mining and cabins. Just outside the city is the impressive Ströbohög burial mound, which is believed to have ancestry from the younger Iron Age. Park your bike below and go up on the pile to get your reward in the form of nice views of the surroundings. During your visit to Köping, you will stay comfortably and centrally at the Best Western Hotel Scheele, which got its name from the great chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele who was active in the city in the late 18th century.
Scheele is perhaps best known for detecting oxygen. An element that not least a cyclist has use of. In fact, it is rather that he was one of several who helped to identify oxygen as a substance. However, he himself called it "fire air".
In Köping there is a notable museum district where you can visit museums focused on firefighting, car history and the old KUJ railway. The railway is of importance to cyclists even in the present, as the embankment is converted to a cycle path that you can use if you go on an excursion outside the city. There are fine MTB trails in Köping in Skoftesta, Johannisdal and Karlbergsskogen. The three tracks are like a trefoil around the city.
Hotel Scheele in Köping has a hospitable and homely feel. Each hotel room is equipped with a really comfortable bed from Hästens, free wifi, shower, bath and TV. The decor is modern, bright and fresh. A full and well-prepared breakfast buffet is served, giving you the chance to recharge with energy for today's cycling. The hotel also has its own masseur, Mellgren's massage & wellness center.
On Östra Långgatan lies the Skeppshandeln stone oven bakery - small, personal and craftsmanship. Enjoy lunch or coffee in the outdoor dining area.
Café Two Skator's premises date back to the 18th century. Here you can enjoy in a beautiful historical setting a homemade menu with the organic and locally produced in the tank!
In the middle of Strömsholm is Strömsholms Markenteri, "Markan", with its own bakery. You can also spend the night in the charming Mahogany villa from the 19th century.
