This is just over 80 km of cycling and some uphills to take into account. A trip that takes you a day to complete. In Gränna there is so much to see and do. Extend the tour with an overnight stay or take a slightly longer break before heading back south.
The text about this bike ride was produced by Calle Andersson at Cycling Jönköping.
The first stop will be Huskvarna, which is also located on the shores of Lake Vättern. We all know the company Husqvarna, which has manufactured, for example, garden machines, motorcycles and sewing machines over the years. Today, the company is the world's largest manufacturer of robotic lawnmowers, garden tractors and chainsaws, among other things.
Calle Andersson, who developed the tour at Cycling Jönköping, suggests the Äppeldalen and the passage at Vista Kulle that comes shortly after you have cycled past Huskvarna. He believes that Cycling Jönköping sees it as one of the area's most beautiful roads. The view of Lake Vättern is something extra. Here is a nice farm roastery and a farm shop at Vista Kulle orchard. The owner Ingo Dieters is a cyclist himself!
You cycle past Landsjön on your right. The landscape is open and the roads are pleasantly winding. You pass Skärstad and Örnstad and reach picturesque Gränna. Here are sights such as Grenna Museum where you can learn most about Andrée and his fateful polar expedition. On Visingsö, which is located in Lake Vättern outside the city, is the old castle ruin Brahehus dating from the 17th century. In Gränna there are also many nice restaurants and cafes where you can replenish your energy before the return trip.
Look at the GPX file and you will see alternative routes on the way home (one goes via Bunnström, Fågelvik and Perstorp down to Ömstad). Calle Andersson writes about Röttle village just after Gränna and that there will then be a fairly uphill slope that extends to Gränna Golf Club. After that, it is easier cycling on small roads. Calle Andersson also recommends visits to Gårdskaféet in Flättinge (which you also pass quite close on the way to Gränna) and Krysset lanthandel in Ölmstad.
