This cycling route has undergone a special certification by the Swedish Transport Agency, which certifies that the path is of high quality, has clear signage and is safe for traffic. There is also a wide range of experiences and services along the trail.
After Otterbäcken awaits a quiet and beautiful cycling along the old country road and cycle paths that follow road 26. Feel free to stop at Kvarntorpet, where Yvonne Adamsson shows nature photography in her old woodshed, or at Askeviks Camping with beach, café and restaurant.
Soon you will reach Sjötorp, where the Göta Canal meets Vänern. Watch the boats being locked, enjoy freshly smoked fish or ice cream, and feel the wings of history at the eight locks. Then follow the canal south through Lyrestad and Norrqvarn, where you will find hotels, restaurants and fabulous stumps to spend the night in.
At Hajstorp you leave the canal and cycle through quiet farmland and small church villages. The last stretch towards Mariestad goes on a bike path near the water, through Karlsholme folk park and into the guest harbor with restaurants and boating. End the day in Gamla stan, one of Sweden's best-preserved city centers, where wooden houses, cobbled streets and the stately cathedral set the mood on the shores of Lake Vänern.
