This cycling route has undergone a special certification by the Swedish Transport Agency, which certifies that the path is of high quality, has clear signage and is safe for traffic. There is also a wide range of experiences and services along the trail.
Cycle from Mariestad to Lidköping along the Biosfär cycle path. A route filled with nature, culture and views of the sparkling waters of Lake Vänern. Start in Mariestad's charming Old Town and take a dip at Ekudden before pedaling south through forests and open landscapes.
Make a stop at Årnäs Castle ruins, beautifully situated by the lake, and continue to Hällekis where you will find Falkängen's craft village with small studios, cafés and local crafts. A short detour takes you to the impressive Kinnekulle quarry, also known as the ”Little Grand Canyon”, with magnificent views of the lake. Further along the trail awaits Västerplana storäng, a nature reserve with flowering meadows and deciduous forest, and a café stop in Blomberg.
Take a refreshing swim at Källby beach before following the last, beautiful stage towards Lidköping. Here you'll be greeted by the hustle and bustle of the market square, historic quarters in the Old Town, shopping and design at Rörstrand's center and exciting exhibitions at the Vänermuseet. A perfect end to the day is to swim or eat well at Framnäsbadet or Kronocamping, with the sunset over Lake Vänern as company.
