This stage takes you from the hinterland of Västerbotten through varied landscapes all the way to the coast of the Baltic Sea. Along this route lies Umeå, a dynamic university town known as the "City of Birches". The city has a rich cultural offering, including its own Guitar Museum. Umeå's streets, marked by the characteristic birch trees, are characterized by life and creativity. If you are hungry, there are gastronomic experiences of various kinds.
The route continues towards the coast and ends in Holmsund, a charming harbor town located at the mouth of the Ume River. Here the vast forests meet the sparkling sea. Holmsund, which dates back to the 16th century, has its own 'Tiananmen Square' in the center of town. This part of the Sweden Trail offers its own pleasant version of Norrland's multifaceted nature and culture.
Parts of the Northern Sweden Trail run along high-speed roads, but traffic volumes are usually low.
