Lake Storsjön is Sweden's fifth largest lake. The Storsjö region and Lake Storsjön are sometimes described as an oasis in the wilderness, surrounded by high mountains to the west and large forest areas to the east. According to legend, the mythical Storsjöodjur lives in the lake. Throughout history, no one has been able to prove that the Storsjöodjur exists, but neither has anyone been able to prove that it doesn't...
This bike tour starts in central Östersund and you cycle mostly on asphalt. You cycle along the eastern shore of the lake over Frösön and on towards Rödön. Storsjön is a mythical lake and along the way you pass the Viking Age Frösö stone. What lies beneath the surface? There is no answer yet. Underwater cameras are placed in Storsjön and sometimes unexplained movements and figures have appeared on the screens.

The Frösö Stone, erected between 1050 and 1080, is Sweden's most northerly surviving Viking Age rune stone, and the only one in Jämtland. The Great Lake Beast is depicted on the Frösö Stone and, according to legend, the beast was enchanted with a spell that was carved into the Frösö Runestone.

Around Lake Storsjön there are eight exciting scouting sites: see sculptures, tracks and murals, try out giant binoculars, take photos through the beast's silhouette or listen for the beast with a wind-powered lure. The adventure awaits in Sunne, Rödön, Hallen, Håkansta, Hackås, Hoverberg, Trångsviken and Vallsundet.
