This part of the Kattegat Trail takes you along Sweden's longest sandy beach and through lush nature reserves.
From Båstad harbor, follow the sea until you reach the pine forest in Hemmeslöv and cross the border between Halland and Skåne. Now a lightly trampled stretch awaits along Laholmsbukten's long sandy beach. In the familiar Skummeslövsstrand you will find restaurants and cafés. Here the sea is shallow and the landscape is open.
A few kilometers inland is the beautiful Skottorp Castle and cozy Laholm, Halland's oldest town. Calculate that it takes about 20 minutes from the trail to Laholm.
A couple of kilometers north of Skummeslövsstrand you reach Mellbystrand, a seaside resort with memories from times gone by. Here the dunes are higher and the sea wilder. You pass ice cream shops, mini golf courses and outdoor cafes.
North of Mellbystrand awaits a stretch along sand dunes, through beach forest and nature reserves, past Laxvik and out into the open countryside south of Halmstad. Before leaving the sea, you can stop at Påarp's shingle field with 220 Iron Age graves. The trail then passes Östra stranden before reaching Halmstad Castle. Approx 75% asphalt, 25% gravel.
