The stage between Karlsborg (boat trip across Lake Vättern) Motala and Borensberg is part of the Göta Canal Trail. You cycle through Motala and north of Lake Boren, mostly on asphalt along old road 34. There is a lot of history and stunningly beautiful nature.
In 1822, Baltzar von Platen set up a mechanical workshop in Motala, which is considered to be the start of the Göta Canal's origin. Today, the city is one of the canal's biggest tourist destinations. The port of Motala is very cozy with several good restaurants. Göta Canal Company's head office is also located in the harbor. The classic Vättern Round is held in June every year with participants from all over the world. A total of 315 kilometers by bike around beautiful Lake Vättern with start and finish in Motala.
The small lake town Borensberg is experienced by many as one of the coziest places along the Göta Canal. Already during the Middle Ages, there was a shelter in Husbyfjöl (the old name of Borensberg). During the time of Charles XI, the restaurant was run by Jöns Erichsson, who also had the current inn built. Under the magnificent stone bridge from 1797, Motala stream flows. In Borensberg there are also fantastic wooden houses, many with a unique location along the water.
