In the heart of the scenic countryside around Lake Sommen, on the border between Småland and Östergötland, you will find Hotel Sommarhagen. Here you cycle on quiet roads through different types of landscapes and you pass both inviting bathing lakes, cultural history farms, craftsmen and beautiful views along the way.
Almost all bicycle paths go along forest paths largely free from other types of traffic. Choose from twelve different bike tours in hilly terrain with different length and difficulty. On the day of arrival, the hotel staff will personally go through all the tours with you as a guest, making it easy to form an opinion and make your choice. There is a great deal of knowledge about the tours, as the hotel itself has made them up.
Cycle along with seven beautiful lakes
One of the tours goes along the lake Sommen, named one of Sweden's most beautiful lakes with its narrow bays, shallow coves and over 300 islands. During the cycle tour, about 27 km long, you will pass seven lakes and the distance is bordered by beautiful viewpoints and the opportunity for a cool dip in the clear lake water. You also pass the small village of Malexander with its beautiful church and steamboat jetty.
Another trip, about 48 km long, goes through an open cultural landscape with meadows, fields and old oaks along the way. Along the way you pass, among other things, the heritage-listed farm Smedstorp with ancestors from the Iron Age and Tiderum's church, one of Sweden's oldest wooden churches.
Live beautifully in the middle of Östergötland wilderness
Hotell Sommarhagen is located in a carefully renovated rectory dating back to the 17th century, beautifully situated in the middle of Östergötland wilderness. Here you can settle in the garden and soak up the atmosphere of absolute calm, enjoy a relaxing bath in the hotel's hot tub under clear skies or bask in the wood-burning sauna. The hotel has 19 cozy double rooms, all equipped with their own shower and toilet.
Enjoy good food from the neighborhood
At the hotel you can enjoy your breakfast or dinner in front of the open fire in the hotel's dining room or, if the temperature allows, out on the summer veranda overlooking the pastures and the sun setting over the lake. All the food that is served at Sommarhagen consists as much as possible of what nature around the hotel has to offer. Fish such as char, perch and whitefish come from the summer's clear water, mushrooms and berries come from surrounding forests as well as game meat from deer and moose.
