Nyfors Cycle Trail is a scenic trail that winds through the wilderness of Malingsbo-Kloten, where you follow the traces of ironworks, forest Finns and coal miners. Here you will find calm lakes, deep forests and a landscape filled with traces from the mining era.
The Nyfors trail takes you past several highlights. At Kloten you are met by small roads lined with lakes and forests, where you can often see beavers or moose. In Nyfors, you can stop at the old cabin site and the bridge over the rapids, a quiet and beautiful place. Along the way you also pass Malingsbo, a culturally and historically interesting mill environment with church, manor house and beautiful surroundings that invite you to pause or picnic at Malingsbo Lake.

The small village of Kloten has a long history. There are three eras: iron production in the 17th century, the heyday of forestry in the 19th century and today's focus on nature, outdoor life and small-scale tourism.
Just a few meters from the road is the ruin of the old blast furnace. Pig iron was produced here from the end of the 17th century until the beginning of the 20th century, driven by hydropower from the stream between Klotensjön and Långvattnet.
A nice resting place where you can pause and light a fire at the fixed fireplace in front of the shelter.
This is where iron ore used to be reloaded - from wagons on land to boats on the lakes. The 50-meter-long break in the waterway is today a place where canoeists still carry their vessels between the lakes.
Since 1677, pig iron was produced in Bredsjö hytta, which was then shipped to Nyfors smithy to be refined into tools.
In the middle of the high plateau lies the village of Nyfors, characterized by the Swedes' cultivation and iron forging. Pig iron from Kloten and Bredsjö was processed here until the end of the 19th century. Today, the village is a peaceful and beautiful place, and there is accommodation at River Lodge for those who want to make the trail a two-day trip.
A community that produced iron for almost 300 years, from 1658 to 1931. Traces of the ironworks era still remain.
Along the trail, you will pass a reconstructed charcoal hut. Here you can imagine how charcoal burners once lived for weeks at a time at the charcoal kilns to produce the charcoal that the blast furnaces devoured.
At Nedre Långtjärn, Mellantjärn and Övre Långtjärn you can try your luck at fishing. Rainbow trout have been planted here, but don't forget your fishing license. The lakes are classic ice pits, formed by the ice sheet.
Another reminder of the hard work and everyday life of the coal miners - a simple hut next to Lake Lumsen.
The final highlight of the tour: a beautiful waterfall where Hedströmmen plunges down the plateau. There is a shelter, a fireplace and a perfect place for a last rest before the tour ends.
You cycle on nice forest roads and gravel roads. Bikes are available for rent in Kloten if you do not have your own.
Accommodations with access to essential tools for simple repairs, contact details for the nearest bicycle service, and secure storage for bicycles.
