This part of the Sweden Trail is a transition from the forested heights of the inland to the coastal landscape of Sundsvall, one of Norrland's largest cities. The route offers fine cycling and a varied nature.
The starting point, Laggarberg, is located in the forest landscape of Ångermanland. Here, visitors can take in the peace and beauty of the Swedish wilderness. As the trail continues south, the landscape opens up and offers wider views. Small Swedish villages pop up along the way with their unique contributions to the culture and history of the region.
Sundsvall is an important coastal city with a rich history. It was home to wealthy wooden barons in the 19th century. Located on the coast of the Bothnian Sea, the city is known for its stone buildings built after the great fire of 1888. With its cultural institutions, restaurants and large harbour, Sundsvall offers a variety of city life compared to the quiet start of the stage.
Parts of the Northern Sweden Trail run along high-speed roads, but traffic volumes are usually low.
