The Emigration Trail takes you through the Småland landscape where Sweden's great emigration history has its roots. The trail runs along winding country roads on both asphalt and gravel, and offers a journey filled with both nature experiences and cultural history.
Along the way you will pass sights such as Korrö craft village, the 1500 year old the judgment ring in Flåboda and the remains of Modala Glassworks, where the author Vilhelm Moberg himself worked in his youth. Feel free to stop by the memorial stone in Påvemåla, the site of the soldier's hut where Moberg grew up at the turn of the last century.
Here you are in the middle of the environments that inspired Moberg's The Emigrants, the poignant story of Karl-Oskar and Kristina who left Sweden for America - a story shared by around 1.5 million Swedes who emigrated between 1860 and 1920.
The emigration route is signposted with red signs for cycling, while the parallel hiking trail has orange signage. Along the trail there are accommodation, historic sites and living cultural environmentsmaking it perfect for a multi-day cycling trip.
