There are several nice tours in and around the city - including around Storsjön, to Frösön, Andersön, Lillsjön, or further towards Krokom and mountain environments. The reward is the proximity to water, open spaces and fresh air. The city is also a perfect starting point for longer bike rides in Jämtland's magnificent nature. You can discover winding dirt roads, cozy farm shops and bathing-friendly bays - all within cycling distance. Combine the tour with local flavors, wilderness life and perhaps a dip in Storsjön with the mountains in the eye.

Do you like mountain biking? On Frösön you'll find Östberget, a popular downhill and enduro area with trails of varying difficulty and fantastic views of Storsjön. South of town is Fugelsta, known for its hand-built trails in a beautiful forest setting - a favorite place for trail biking and flowy rides. At Bynäset, out on the west side of Frösön, technical trails wind along the lake with the mountains as a backdrop. For those who want speed and hills, there are bike trails at Östersund's Ski Stadium, while Brunflo Bike Park just outside the city offers a playful arena for the whole family, with jumps, curves and balance tracks.

Getting Here

There are fast trains (takes about 5 hours) with SJ to Stockholm and Arlanda, among others. There are also night trains. You can bring your bike if you store it in a suitable bicycle bag (maximum dimensions 140x85x30 cm, maximum weight 25 kg for both bike and bag).

Inlandsbanan runs between Kristinehamn and Gällivare and stops in Östersund. A beautiful and slightly slower alternative. You can bring your bike on board. Bikes can be pre-booked, more may follow subject to availability.

You can travel with Flixbuss and bring your bike on some departures at an additional cost.
