This cycling route has undergone a special certification by the Swedish Transport Agency, which certifies that the path is of high quality, has clear signage and is safe for traffic. There is also a wide range of experiences and services along the trail.
Here you cycle along the coast, through woodland and across agricultural landscapes, through small communities and in urban environments. The Kattegat Trail is slightly hilly where it follows small roads and cycle paths as well as busy roads.
North of Varberg, the landscape changes - sandy beaches turn into cliffs and the first islands start to appear: Getterön, Balgö and Vendelsö. The trail takes you down to Bua harbor, a fishing village where you can sample the delights of the sea.
Through Frillesås, the trail goes in mixed traffic and then continues on the old embankment where you can enjoy a car-free stretch along the coast. Stop at one of the sea baths in Åsa, have an ice cream in the café or an afternoon coffee at the bakery.
Take a detour to Tjolöholm Castle, Sweden's only Tudor-style castle. You cycle on along fields and horse farms. Stop at Rolfsbron in Hanhals, a beautiful stone arch bridge from the 17th century. In Kungsbacka, the trail passes through the town, which is one of West Sweden's largest trading centers. Approx. 80% asphalt, 20% gravel.
