Do this:

1. Roll the pulley to one edge of the jumper.
2. Hold the meter vertically and roll out the distance on the distance you want to measure on the chart sheet.
3. Lift the meter and roll back the pulley to the starting position directly on the side scale of the map and calculate the distance.
