With mighty Kattegatt in the west, the national cycle path Kattegatt Trail goes from Helsingborg in the south to Gothenburg in the north. This bike package starts in Helsingborg and the tone is set early when you pass Sofiero castle with its rhododendron bushes in the park. It is a pleasure for the eye to ride the well-organized trail. Take a look at elegant Båstad. You drive along the sun-drenched coastline and visit fine summer towns such as Halmstad, Falkenberg and Varberg. You eat well, get very nice cycling and meet lots of culture and history along the way. If you want to buy something nice, there are many farm shops along the way.
During your cycling trip you will be staying at selected accommodation, each with its own personality and style. Good accommodation is especially important when cycling a little longer on the days. Among other things, you will stay at Pensionat Enehall in Båstad and Clarion Collection Hotell Fregatten in Varberg. This is a bike package that stretches along the entire Kattegatt Trail, and you cycle between 40-60 km per day. If necessary, you can add or remove days and adjust the distances.
Arrival in Helsingborg. Discover the city. The core is a tower that is the only one remaining
the building of the medieval Helsingborg Castle. Take a walk along the sea or do one
visit to Dunker's cultural center. Denmark is only 20 min boat ride away (Helsingör). There you can
you can visit Kronborg Castle, which is included on UNESCO's World Heritage list and this is where William Shakespeare's famous play Hamlet played out.
Cycle north. Stop by Sofiero Castle and Castle Garden with more than 10,000 rhododendron bushes blooming in May-June. Other gems along the way are the picturesque fishing villages of Domsten and Viken. Enjoy the magnificent landscape on the dramatic Kulla Peninsula. Rönne å meanders through the 500-year-old town of Angelholm. Experience it up close with the sightseeing boat Salmon or paddle or fishing. Overnight at Valhall Park Hotel in Angelholm.
After a good breakfast, it's time to continue your bike ride to Båstad. You will experience many sights along the way. This part of the Kattegat Trail is a little more hilly, and you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sea.
You cycle through small villages and fishing villages and pass Skepparkroken, Vejbystrand and picturesque Torekov where you can buy fish in the harbor. The journey continues towards fertile Bjäre peninsula with small-scale agriculture. At Norrviken's gardens you can see the sea again and end the day in Båstad, which hosts the Swedish Open tennis tournament. Overnight at Pensionat Enehall in Båstad.
After breakfast you head to today's destination point which is Halmstad, a picturesque big city in miniature with a buzzing folk life. You cycle along Laholms Bay long sandy beach and can stop for lunch or coffee in Skummeslövsstrand. A short distance from the Kattegatt Trail lies beautiful Skottorp Castle and cozy Laholm, Halland's oldest town. Then you come to Mellbystrand, a classic seaside resort with 12 kilometers of sandy beach.
On your way to Halmstad you can make a detour to Påarp's tomb, Halland's largest tomb with about 200 tombstones and 50 stonework from the older Iron Age. Don't miss visiting Halmstad Castle from the 17th century, which was built during the time when Halmstad and Halland were Danish. The castle has a very beautiful park, and you can follow along on a guided tour. Overnight stay at First Hotel Mårtenson in Halmstad.
The day starts with breakfast at the hotel, and then you cycle west towards Tylösand, Frösakull, Ringenäs and Vilshärad. At the windmill in Särdal there is a cozy café and a farm shop. You then cycle on towards Ugglarp and can make a detour to Svedino's Car & Flight Museum with an impressive collection that includes about 100 old cars and 40 aircraft.
Then you cycle inland through a rolling agricultural landscape. Stop by at the lookout spot Smörkull and Grimsholmen Nature Reserve before arriving at the medieval town of Falkenberg and popular Skrea beach with its long jetty. Don't miss the beautiful Customs Bridge and try fishing crabs among the rocks. The RIAN Design Museum and Lilla Napoli, a small pizzeria with high ambitions are some highlights when visiting the city. Overnight stay at Hotel Hamngatan 27 in Falkenberg, housed in an old Q-marked sea magazine.
The day starts with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Today you will cycle to Varberg through open landscapes with unspoilt nature and popular beaches such as Olofsbo, Björkäng and Apelviken. Here is a good selection if you want to have an ice cream or eat some food. If you prefer a little less well-known bathing places, we recommend Stafsinge beach or Petters jetty.
Along the way there is a rich bird life, several nature reserves and picturesque fishing villages such as Lövstaviken, Glommen and Träslövsläge. You can stop at nice small farm shops and visit artisans along the way. Apelviken is a well-known paradise for windsurfers.
You cycle into Varberg's harbor with a cold bath house and a social park, and see Varberg's fortress dry up. You who have the strength left can cycle all the way up and enjoy the view. Overnight at Clarion Collection Hotel Frigate in Varberg.
After breakfast you continue north towards today's goal which is Frillesås in Halland. North of Varberg the landscape is changing. The sandy beaches are getting smaller and instead the powerful cliffs are spreading which is so characteristic of the Bohusland coast.
You cycle through small communities and in urban environments. Through Frillesås you share the road with cars, which requires normal attention. In the fishing village Bua harbor you can try the delights of the sea. Overnight stay at Pensionat Frillesberg in Frillesås, a true guest house from 1938 with restaurant, outdoor seating and nice pub in the basement.
After a good night's sleep and breakfast, you cycle on to Gottskär and Kungsbackafjorden. You cycle out of Frillesås and continue on old embankment along the coast. Stop by one of the sea baths in Åsa, and cool off with an ice cream in the café.
We recommend a detour to Tjolöholm Castle, the Nordic region's foremost Arts and Crafts facility and Sweden's only castle in tudor style. Stop at Rolfsbron in Hanhals, a beautiful stone arch bridge from the 17th century. Overnight stay at Gottskär hotel overlooking the sea.
Today you cycle towards the final destination which is Drottningtorget in Gothenburg. On today's stage you pass cliffs, lush forests, coves and marinas and there are plenty of swimming areas along the way.
In Gothenburg you can visit the Gothenburg Art Museum, eat fish and seafood dishes of the highest
class in the Feskekôrka, go on a boat trip with the Paddan or try out the rides and
attractions at Liseberg. Or just take a stroll through the city and enjoy all
culinary experiences that Gothenburg offers.
