Here, the ovens have been running since 1742 and you are welcome to take a close look at a genuine Swedish craft.

Overnight stay at Målerås hostel and B&B, housed in the newly renovated railway hotel from 1890. The hostel can offer fresh single, double and multi-bedded rooms. A large breakfast buffet is served each morning. In the immediate vicinity of the hostel / B&B there are excellent roaming areas and good fishing waters.

Day 1

Glassworks, bathing lakes and Småland wilderness

The cycle tour winds through typical Småland forests and you cycle on cozy small roads (about 80% gravel, 20% asphalt). Part of the route you will ride on Kostabanan's old railway bank. The forests dignify in late summer and autumn of mushrooms and berries. If you miss the moose, the king of the forest, during the bike ride itself, there is a 1.3 kilometer long walk along a forest fence where you can get close to the world's largest deer from a lookout tower.

At Kosta glassworks you can follow the production of Kosta Boda's products, from the melting of the glass mass to the glass blowing itself and the grinding and painting of the glass objects. Kosta also has 20,000 square meters of shopping for the whole family with 200 different international brands at Kosta Outlet. Adjacent to the store are also pleasant cafes and eateries where you can gather energy for the bike ride back to Målerås. In Kosta you can also visit Glashusen, a townhouse with five separate houses designed by Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) - one of Sweden's foremost furniture creators.

At Wärdshuset Hyttan you can experience something out of the ordinary. From June to September there is the opportunity to take part in a real Smaland party meal dating back to the time of the Luffers. The traditional cabin herring starts when the glass blowers go home and then the long tables appear inside the glass cabin. The chef has fried salty herring and is served plates with crispy pork, lard, baked potatoes and authentic Småland cheese cake. From a panoramic window you look straight into the glassblowing workshop. In the glasses, cellar selection of beer foams and it rarely takes a long time before the troubadour suits up to all singing.

Easy cycling on surprisingly fine dirt roads. The rental bikes were better than the ones we have at home. An extra plus for detailed map so it was easy to find the right one. Successful activity.
