Get to know Skåne by cycling from Kristianstad to Simrishamn in the southeast. The bike ride goes along the beautiful cycle path Sydostleden and lasts for three days. One of the gems along the way is the medieval city of Åhus with its monastic wall and the opportunity to visit the liquor company The Absolut Company's visitor center. There will also be cycling in nature reserves with beautiful forests and wonderful Haväng where you can admire the 5500 years old megalith grave Havängsdösen.

Food and drink is always a special experience in Skåne. During the trip there will be a visit to Kivik with its classic apple orchards. During the apple market in September, you can view a work of art made from 35,000 apples. You spend the night at the Cocoon farm hotel in Degeberga and the Alunbruket Bed & Breakfast in Verkeån's nature reserve.

Day 1

Kristianstad - Degeberga

Cocoon Gårdshotell table setting

The bike tour starts in Kristianstad in southern Skåne. The city has a long history and was founded after the Kalmar War in 1614 by the Danish king Christian IV. Don't miss the Naturum Vattenriket which is not far from central Kristianstad. Then you continue towards Åhus, which is one of Sweden's best preserved medieval cities with narrow alleys and picturesque half-timbered houses. Here is Absolute Home where you can learn more about the history and philosophy behind Absolut Vodka. You can enjoy genuine Scanian food at Åhus Gästgivaregård and wonderful ice cream can be found at Tre Kulor ice cream kiosk at the bottom of the dock at the harbor.

The journey continues towards Friseboda Nature Reserve and here you cycle along the Hanö Bay just next to the sea. You will spend the night at the charming Cocoon Gårdshotell in Degeberga and have dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2

Degeberga - Alunbruket at Verkeåns nature reserve

The alumni bed breakfast garden

You start the day with breakfast at the hotel, and then head for today's goals Alunbruket and Österlen. At Maglehem you can depart from the cycle path on the embankment and cycle to Blåherremölla. Here you can buy homemade cakes and drink coffee in a wonderful old farm and mill environment.

For many, Brösarp slopes are the very image of Österlen - both the north and the south - and here there is much to discover. The views are wonderful with miles of views over the valley of Verkeån. Haväng is an enchantingly beautiful place where miles of sandy beaches meet moorland and rare sandstones. Christinehof's Ekopark and Christinehof's castle from the 18th century and Hallamölla waterfalls are also well worth a visit. In the evening, dinner and ready-made beds await at Alunbrukets Bed & Breakfast. Just next door is Skåne's oldest coffeehouse, Alunbruket, where you can drink coffee in a wonderful cultural environment.

Day 3

Alunbruket - Simrishamn

After a delicious breakfast, you cycle on winding roads in the beautiful and hilly countryside with the final destination of Simrishamn. You pass the old fishing village Kivik with the Appel Kingdom, Kivik's Museum and the annual Apple Market. Take a break and stop at one of the cozy cafes and restaurants. Stop at Stenshuvud National Park and hike up to the top of the mountain with glorious views of the sea and Kivik with all apple gardens. A bit south lies Djupadal, with Mandelmann's Gardens.

Simrishamn is usually called the Austrian capital, and dates back to the 12th century. Here are picturesque pastel-colored houses with beautifully carved doors typical of the neighborhood. A little south is Glimmingehus, the Nordic region's best preserved medieval castle Glimmingehus and not so far from Ales Stones, Sweden's largest preserved shipwreck. Other places to visit are the charming fishing villages of Skillinge and Brantevik. Maybe you stay an extra night and discover the surroundings?

Difficult to find Alunbruket, did not say in the description that you would take off towards Andrarum, so we cycled wrong. Bad Signage to Degeberga, went wrong because the trail took us to the wrong Degeberga

The accommodation and food at Alungårdens B&B unfortunately reduces the rating on an otherwise great trip

Hello and thank you for a nice trip in Eastern Skåne, Nice nights that were well balanced for tired cyclists, nice reception and good rooms. Dinners and breakfasts that suited us well. Nature was shown from the finest side with sun, heat and many tailwinds, the embankments were nice to cycle on which also offered fruit moments along the way. Pictures will be used by you if they fit.

Apart from the fact that we had a little too simple bikes for the distance we cycled, it was a fantastic experience. The food was good, but at Alunbruket the evening meal was sold as dinner, which we did not really agree with. The food was good, but more of supper / cafe / cold meal. The dinner did not quite meet our expectations. Otherwise a very nice excursion.

At Cocoon Meetings we had a good two-course dinner. Other guests ate 5-course meal and we got two of their five courses. It felt a little stingy. Add as many as 5 dishes included in the package, and it will feel much more luxurious. 5 dishes cost SEK 595 according to the menu. At Alunbruket we got a plate of simple, good food. You would bring wine with you. Shared bathroom turned out to be in another house a good distance away ... Very good bike paths and clearly signposted.

As always, Österlen is fantastic to see and experience from the bicycle saddle. It is wonderful and varied nature with beautiful beech forests, rolling fields and breathtaking views over the hills down to Hanö Bay. Most of the cycling went on cycle paths and sometimes on busy roads, but then usually with a little traffic, which meant that we could all enjoy cycling in peace and quiet. We were three adults and two children (7 and 10 years). For the younger one, it could sometimes be tough with difficult slopes, but for the most part it worked very well. The food was good at our two accommodations, however, one should consider having a menu even for children who do not always appreciate for us tasty \ "adult food \". On the whole, a very nice experience that we are happy to repeat.

One accommodation double bed in large room, other accommodation bunk bed in small room. One dinner two luxury dishes with wine rights, the other dinner good but simple cold plate without wine rights

The first accommodation Cocoon was very nice but a little too far from the trail we cycled. There were a few extra kilometers that we at least did not need. The second accommodation was spartan but ok. Good if we knew it was not possible to order a glass of wine in the evening, then we could have chosen to buy something ourselves. The whole thing was good!

We can really recommend taking a bike ride on the Sydostleden trail from Kristianstad to Simrishamn. Many fine cycling trails and an absolutely wonderful nature.
