Combine relaxation with some exercise and history by cycling to Strömsholm Castle. A castle was built by Gustav Vasa at the site as early as the 16th century and the present Baroque castle was completed in 1681. The castle was inhabited by, among other things, the widow queen Hedvig Eleonora. Here you can take a walk in the castle park and admire the surrounding area with its oaks and beautiful hazel groves. Nearby is beautiful Strömsholm's canal with Karl XV's lock.
The cycle tour starts at the Tourist Office on Kopparbergsgatan in central Västerås, and this is a trip for those who enjoy cycling a few miles. According to the route we describe, it is about 30 kilometers easy way to the destination. A good bike ride back and forth throughout the day. You can also continue on the Mälardalsleden trail to, for example, Köping or Eskilstuna. Here you can read more about it Strömsholm Castle - one of the royal castles in Sweden.
Bicycle friendly accommodation: If you want to combine the tour with an overnight stay, there are several nice bike-friendly accommodations nearby, all with a slightly different character. In Västerås there are Elite Stadshotellet. You can also choose to book a room at mahogany villa in Strömsholm. Do you want to continue cycling a few miles there Hotel Gillet in Köping and Kohlswa Manor in Kolsva.
