Kafésafari för starka cyklister
Cykling för själ och smaklökar i Sörmland.
2 nights 1 850 kr / pers
Once you have cycled along the coast in eastern Sörmland you are happy to return. The roads meander through a landscape that is green and fantastic in the countryside given the proximity to Stockholm. There are lots of sights in different formats: magnificent castles, courtyards with a personal touch and wonderful views of glittering bays. This is a bike package for those who enjoy cycling a few miles to find the inner balance. Lots of movement combined with charming little culinary rewards. The accommodation offers sea views and natural inspiration.
If you are in really good shape you cycle the approximately 7 miles from Stockholm. The area is very scenic and here you can meet seals at the morning dip, and see sea eagles up close. In the soils, the richness of the species is great as the soil is lime-rich. Part of the area is nature reserve. It will be evening coffee when you arrive and then you can plan tomorrow's excursion in peace and quiet with the archipelago at your feet. It is just as well to take the bus to Trosa (contact Åkerbergs Trafik 0156-340 00 and book your bike seat), then a seven kilometer bike ride to Stensund.
You start the day with a hearty breakfast. The energy will be needed. It is you yourself who compose today's bike tour with the help of digital maps that you get access to, but if you feel like it you can test this loan foundation with stops at four delightful cafes.
With the coast on your right, you head north towards Mörkö. The historically interested person, of course, makes a detour to Tullgarn's castle (or you save it for day two). On the site there have been castle buildings from the 16th century. Perhaps best known is Tullgarn's castle as Gustav V's summer residence and today for the apple orchards.
Cycle over to Mörkö and take a first coffee stop at IDALA CAFÈ & LANTHANDEL. There you can have a cup of coffee or maybe a wild boar sandwich. The landscape on Mörkö is fairly flat. The island has its own castle called Hörningarolm and which is privately owned. The island of Oaxen on the eastern side of Mörkö may also be worth a visit with its old limestone quarry. Cycle at the top of the north and take the car ferry across Skanssundet to Hörningsnäs.
The next cafe stop is ELDTOMTA CAFÈ, which was named the Tourist Company of the Year 2017. An old trading place where you could buy salted herring and horseshoes in the 19th century. You can still buy a herring plate for lunch or enjoy delicious pastries.
The next stop is Grödinge, where you will find Klockargården's Waffle House. Once upon a time there lived the one who rang the bells in Grödinge church with his family. Now waffles and other goodies are served in the pleasant atmosphere.
Today's last stop is CAFÈ ROSENHILL. The last bit goes on winding roads that cyclists usually like. Here you can have a cup of coffee and a good sandwich before it goes south again. Cycle back via Mörkö. You spend the night at Stensund Folk High School. They call themselves "a greenhouse for people". Eat a tasty dinner and sleep well after today's long trip.
After breakfast you cycle at a leisurely pace to the nearby small town idyll Trosa. This day is a good time to take it easy. Maybe you park your bike and stroll along the river for a while or go down to the harbor and watch the boats. If you waited with Tullgarn's castle the day before, you might cycle there for a cup of coffee. When you are satisfied with today's experiences, you return to Stensund. Maybe you take a sauna or rent a kayak before it's time for dinner.
After another good night's sleep, it's time to go home. You will have breakfast and pack up while remembering your great days of good food, archipelago air and hopefully lots of sun. With you home you have collected your Stensund memories as Goa 'caramels in a nice bowl and in rainy November you can bring out the dish and taste a Stensund caramel.
