A first castle-like facility, Sture Castle, was built in the late 16th century. The current castle was completed in 1727. You live right on the Trosaån on charming Ågården with ten uniquely decorated hotel rooms, all with their own entrance directly from the courtyard.
Did you know that several apple varieties originate in Mälardalen? Some examples are Åkeröapplen, Sparreholm's apple and Säfstaholm apple. The old mansions set a certain prestige in the 19th century in drawing up their own apple variety. The old apple varieties have a cultural-historical value and are part of the biodiversity in the garden. Discover Swedish apples on your mobile and learn more about apple growing and read about the history of your favorite apples.
From Liljeholmen you can take your bike on the Trosabussen, and if you are a reasonably used cyclist you can cycle all the way from Stockholm. Dogs are welcomed in special rooms for a small surcharge (pre-booked). Note that dogs are not allowed in the restaurant indoors but well outside in the garden.
Arrival at Ågården in Trosa. Leave the luggage and pick up a rental bike if you do not have your own. Provide yourself with a packed lunch and go on a bike ride in the fertile landscape in southern Sweden.
The goal of the day is Tullgarn's castle, whose present building was completed during the 1720s. You cycle both on asphalt and gravel along winding roads, and the tour begins with cycling along Trosaån. Shortly after Åda, you pass Nora Garden, a personal and small-scale garden with everything you need to realize your garden dreams. Here you can stop for the opportunity to have a snack, either on the way out or home.
You cycle on low-traffic roads and in the fields between Augustendal and Åda you can often see large flocks of deer. You continue into the Tullgarns forests through beautiful forest and land. Here is a walk through Tullgarn's apple garden. Back at the hotel, wait for a glass of cava or ice-cold beer before dinner in the fantastic garden, greenhouse or indoors in the wonderful house of 1738.
After a good night's sleep, a wonderful breakfast awaits. Maybe you choose to stay an extra night and explore other nearby areas by bike.
