It is about the largest building project in Sweden's history. Today, the Göta Canal is one of the biggest tourist attractions and for those who want to get to know one of the most beautiful parts of the canal's route, this bike package is perfect. Alongside all the beautiful views, you can see, among other things, the canal's highest land point at 91.5 meters above sea level and the hand-operated lock in Tåtorp.
The scenic bike ride is always on car-free roads a few meters from the canal edge. The start and end points are in Töreboda via Sjötorp at the Göta Canal's inlet from Lake Vänern. In Töreboda there is, among other things, a K-marked railway station from 1859. The first night you stay at Pensionat Prästgårdens family hotel and the second night in cabins right next to the Göta Canal, more specifically at the nice Jonsboda Café & Camping.
It is easy to take the train to Töreboda - 30 km from Stockholm and 20 km from Gothenburg. Bike rental is available at Café Visthuset about 500 meters from the train station and 400 meters from Pensionat Prästgården.
Töreboda - Sjötorp round trip
The journey begins in Töreboda, which is perfect because you can get there by train. Then a charming canal-cycle ride follows 19 locks to Sjötorp. In Sjötorp, lunch is served at Cafe Baltzar at the harbor basin (obviously named after Baltzar von Platen who is the channel's author). You will learn more about the canal by visiting the canal museum (entrance included) located at Sjötorp harbor. When you are happy with the day, it is time to cycle back to Töreboda and the waiting dinner. You stay at Pensionat Prästgården's family-run hotel and dinner is served at a nearby restaurant about 300 meters from the hotel.
(Suggestion: take the train to Töreboda).

Töreboda - Tåtorp - Jonsboda
After a good breakfast, the bike ride continues to Tåtorp and today's final destination Jonsboda. On the way you pass the Wassbacken and then the island of Lanthöjden where you can see the seven meters high obelisk which marks the canal's highest land point at 91.5 m above sea level. The bike ride continues to beautiful Tåtorp where the Göta Canal opens into Lake Viken. In Tåtorp you can see one of the channel's two hand operated locks. It was built in 1814, is a level loop that regulates the water level between the canal and the lake Viken and has a fall height of 0.2 meters. When you feel satisfied for the day, you cycle back to Jonsboda where overnight and food await a small, cozy campsite.
In the evening we recommend for a while in the wood-burning sauna which is right next to the canal edge. Enjoy the tranquility and the relaxing atmosphere on the jetty or on the terrace in Jonsboda, right next to the canal. If you are lucky, one of the big passenger boats will come by, absolutely magical!

Jonsboda - Töreboda
Enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Göta Canal and the boats chugging past. The bike ride through this picturesque part of Västergötland leads back to Töreboda. It is no rush, and then you can remember that when the railroad needed to standardize time in Sweden in the mid-1800s to be able to make timetables, it was decided that time in Töreboda could be "the original time". You have reached the end goal with lots of new memories and pleasant experiences along the Göta Canal.
