Cycling in Halland is an enjoyable experience. The cycling takes place in a soft hilly landscape and where you experience the tranquility of Halland's inland as you pass farms, forests and lakes. The tours are customized so that there will be plenty of time to enjoy the accommodation, the historic landmarks and the strawberry spots that you pass along the road on as car-free roads as possible.

In this bike package, the cycle paths meander, mostly on asphalt but in some places on gravel roads, ahead in the area between Varberg and Falkenberg. You mostly cycle on small roads, both on gravel and asphalt, with less traffic and some forest roads. The first day the cycle tour winds around on smaller roads in Varberg's countryside with exciting tourist destinations. The next day the trip goes out to the coast and sandy beaches in Falkenberg and then on the last day follow the Kattegatt Trail back to Varberg, so close to the coast it just goes! Two accommodations out of the ordinary; a unique farm hotel with its own vineyard in Varberg's inland and a charming hotel at Ätran in the center of Falkenberg, housed in a Q-marked former sea magazine.

Please note that the price is slightly higher June 13-August 16, 2020 (from SEK 3,790 / pers and living in a double room).

Varberg is a charming city with lots to experience. Book an extra night at a high-class hotel, the day before or after the bike tour. See price for extra overnight stay under "Possible options" in the column above right.

Day 1

Varberg - Åkulla

The tour starts in Varberg and goes east inland. Along the way, you pass exciting and unique sights such as the World Heritage Site, Grimeton Radio Station and Bexell's Talking Stones. You also cycle past "One of Sweden's most beautiful farms 2013", a sheep farm with its own meat shop, craft shop, lamb safari and restaurant.

Accommodation and dinner at a winery (you enjoy the tasting menu of the winery which includes an appetizer, two middle dishes and a dessert.), Zip-line, a different spa and of course a restaurant with mainly Swedish produce, preferably locally produced and organic.

Day 3

Falkenberg - Varberg

The day begins with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. The cycling towards Varberg follows the Kattegatt Trail along the coast to the north with alternating kilometers of sandy beaches and barren cliffs to the north and goes as close to the sea as possible. Along the way, meadows, lighthouses, bird sanctuaries and small cozy fishing villages are also passed.

Once back in Varberg, Varberg's fortress offers an exciting story. Here is also the Bockstensmannen and the bullet button which is said to have killed Karl XII during the Battle of Fredriksten in 1718.

The best accommodation was Hamngatan 27 in Falkenberg. Fantastic treatment when we cycled in headwinds and torrential rain were checked in 2 hours before the scheduled time so we could take a hot shower and change. The Kattegat trail was disappointing because it went from Morup and a good distance north on a heavily trafficked road. Admittedly signposted with temporary stretching of the trail, but few motorists took into account. Here we had probably expected a calmer trail closer to the sea. But for the most part, we are happy with our bike ride.

Hamngatan 27 was a very nice hotel that gets at least 4 stars. Eaten very good food but dated room standard. Very good maps and info about the bike paths themselves. A little too many km on 70-road day 3 reduces the experience a bit.

Very pleased! Missing bicycle bags. Admittedly basket but had to forgo the picnic lunch due to lack of space.

Everything was good.

Rain forecast every day meant we took the car between the hotels and instead cycled shorter day trips when the sun was shining. The hotels were fantastic and we give this trip our warmest recommendations.
