We all have sweet associations when Österlen comes to talk. Listen to Östen Warnerbring's "Kivikspolska" if you need to fill up with impressions. The cycling is comfortable in the flat landscape and it is easy to accommodate all the open views. You will meet the sea, charming little fishing villages, rolling cornfields, art galleries and lots of tasty food along the way. You will also learn about the history in Skåne and can visit the magnificent Glimmingehus, the Nordic region's most well-preserved medieval castle.

Hotel Turistgården in Simrishamn offers accommodation with 18th-century atmosphere, personal service and excellent conditions for relaxation. Make sure to visit the beautiful Rose Garden. There are more than 300 kinds of roses! A scented experience out of the ordinary.

You have plenty of sights and pleasant experiences to fill the days with during your cycling days. Art, beech forests, restaurants, historical monuments and so on. It includes daily lunch packages with baguette, salad, fruit, cake and coffee. You take it when it suits you best during today's bike excursion.

Day 1:

Simrishamn - an idyllic harbor town

When you arrive at Hotel Turistgården in the small port town of Simrishamn, you are welcomed with homemade fig bread. Then you can hop on the bike and take a little walk in the neighborhood. The idyllic town actually has Sweden's largest fishing port. Have a drink down in the harbor and watch the public life. The restaurants are close, so chances are you will find exactly what you are craving.

Day 2:

Fishing villages and medieval castle

Start the day by cycling south along the sea towards Skillinge. On the way you pass the fishing village of Brantevik, maybe this is where you stop and munch on sandwiches and coffee that Tourist Farm sent with. Skillinge you reach after a little over a mile, it is a hot day surely attracts the sea for a cooling dip.

From Skillinge you can cycle on small roads to Glimmingehus stately medieval castle. Take a guided tour and listen to entertaining stories about life in the castle and how any attackers would be discouraged. Take a swing past nearby Bolshög's small church from the 12th century. Direct the cousin back home towards Simrishamn again, where you can breathe out with something good to drink in the Rosenträdgården at the hotel.

Day 3:

Kivik - apples and beautiful heaths

Our suggestion for this day is that you cycle north to Kivik. Turn down to Stenshuvud National Park, park your bike and hike up the mighty summit along a path in leafy deciduous forest. 97 meters above the sea you get a lovely view along the coast and out over the Gulf of Hanö. Continue on to the beautiful beach heads. After the hike you can enjoy a swim from the beautiful sandy beach. The perfect place to enjoy your packed sandwich package.

The mostly pleasant climate has made Kivik a center for Swedish apple growing. Just south of the community is Kivik's museum, here you can visit the Apple House, walk in the gardens, dine in the Kärnhuset restaurant and buy must-have from the farm shop. The old fishing village Kivik has an unusually well-preserved and maintained older settlement. A walk in the old neighborhood near the harbor is an experience. It was here that the eccentric writer Fritiof Nilsson Piraten spent the summers.

On the northern outskirts of the community lies Vitemölla Badhotell, closer to the classic bathing hotel than this one does not come. It was built in 1913 and on the glass veranda you enjoy high quality food and dream of times like moving. Continue towards Haväng and the Ravlunda shooting field just north of Kivik, here you can enjoy cycling on small dirt roads. The heath landscape is fantastic and the sea is at your side all the time. Here are also cool beech forests and here begins one of the country's longest and finest sandy beaches, the one that runs all the way to Åhus.

Day 4:

Wild deer and swimming beaches

The fine bathing area at Lake Gyllebos is a fine destination for a bike ride, at the lake there is also a castle ruin from the 16th century and a castle from the 19th century. The lake is located in scenic surroundings with lush beech forests and a vast natural pasture in the south. The transition between the plains landscape in the south and the woodlands on the slopes of Linderödsåsen in the north creates a varied nature that offers much to discover for the nature-interested. At Gyllebo there are also large deer hedges.

A true nature experience

One day you might be craving a longer bike ride. Then we think that you will be heading north towards Rären, here you can visit Mandelmann's gardens which is an agricultural and forestry that is ecologically driven. The garden kitchen serves food and coffee, in the farm shop there are vegetables and fruits by season. French Creperie in Rarium breathes true French peasant romance, with a taste of raw materials from Österlen. The next destination for the excursion is the fantastic beech forest at S: t Olof. You will pass pastures with horses, sheep, cows and chickens where you ride in the Scanian countryside
