Cycle in charming Norrtälje and its surroundings
In the idyllic city center of Norrtälje, it is close to the golden grains and here you can settle down in one cozy place after another. Café Atmajala next to Norrtäljeån serves good vegetarian dishes and there you can also try SUP yoga. Café Landkrabban has a large outdoor restaurant where you can sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee with good pastries. During the city's jazz days, the whole city swings, but even at other times of the year, the city's pubs often have jazz and blues on the program. In the middle of the 19th century, Norrtälje was one of the most popular seaside resorts in the Baltic Sea, widely known for its charitable mud. Do you know more about the interesting history of the city, there are city walks that can satisfy your pleasure meeting on stories of ironworks, Russian invasion, fire cures and spa treatments.
In the afternoon, check in at Hotel Åtellet, beautifully located in a wooden villa inspired by the late 19th century wholesaler villas. The design idea behind the hotel is to recreate a feeling from bygone times when well-heeled tourists piled on Norrtälje's charitable treatments. At the hotel you will stay in archipelago-inspired rooms with your own toilet and bathroom and after finishing the bike ride you are welcome to relax and enjoy in the hotel's sauna. For dinner, a tasty two-course menu is served and after dinner you can settle down in the living room, or on the large terrace with wonderful view of the Norrtalje bay, and just relax.
"Vikingavägen" to Roslagsbro and Söderbykarl
After a good breakfast, the bike ride continues on rural roads in a northeast direction towards Roslagsbro. You have the Norrtalje bay in the south, Brosjön in the west and Bagghusfjärden in the east and here are many idylls to discover by the water and open landscapes to cycle through. The bike ride continues along fields, meadows, forests and waterways up to Söderbykarl. Here are several attractions to visit, including Karl's church ruin, Erikskull's hometown and museum which, among other things, has the world-unique Viksbåten from the Viking era in its collection.
In Söderbykarl you check in at picturesque Wik B&B, a homely accommodation with personally decorated rooms, comfortable beds and enjoyable cooking. During the 1900s, the house served as the neighborhood's homestead and here since then there have been parties and social events of various kinds - it is even said that ABBA performed here at the beginning of his career. Here you share a shower and toilet, and there is also a sauna for you to enjoy. Adjacent to the kitchen is a furnished porch where you can sit and enjoy the evening sun and the seafood platter served for dinner.
Cycling along by lake and through forest
In the area around Söderbykarl there are wonderful berry and mushroom forests and along the tour of Lake Erken, whose name means shining in Old Swedish, you can experience one of the finest of our Swedish traditions: crayfish fishing. If you cycle during the season there is also the opportunity to buy fresh crayfish in some places along the way.
After a good breakfast, containing as many organic, nutritious and fair-labeled goods as possible, you will return to Norrtälje and return the bikes at Åtellet.
