About Lake Sommen in Östergötland it is usually said that it has as many islands as the year has days. In addition, the water is unusually clean and the fishing is famous. From the roads around the lake you can see the water almost all the time. With charming Hotel Sommarhagen as a starting point, the varied landscape around Sommen is the starting point for a contentious 5-day mini-holiday with lots of cycling but also opportunities for hiking, canoeing and horse riding.
Hotell Sommarhagen is an old parsonage dating back to the 17th century, which has been carefully renovated into a comfortable hotel beautifully situated in the middle of Östergötland's wilderness. The 19 double rooms have a shower, wifi and a soothing silence that must be experienced on site. Wake up in the morning and look out for grazing horses, the beautiful garden and the lake. In the restaurant, much of the food is cooked on local produce and meals are eaten on the glass veranda.
After today's adventure, you can catch up with a dip in the hot water of the hot tubs. You can choose to have the entire relaxation area with hot tub, relaxation room and wood-burning sauna exclusively for yourself. Some sit right up until the small hours and enjoy.
Days that can be varied
The five-day mini-holiday package is built around cycling, but the activities can be varied over the days and it is very nice to choose when you combine your stay together. Every day you return to Sommarhagen for dinner and relaxation in the evening.
Hotell Sommarhagen has travel descriptions for fine cycling trips to nearby places. The program varies but can include destinations such as Malexander with its church and pillar cave, Smedstorp with ancestry from the Iron Age and the village of Ulrika with pottery sales. You who ride on a day trip will bring you a packed lunch that can be enjoyed at one of the many beautiful lakes in the area. It is possible to rent a bike with 3 gears (stable model Sjösala with a little more powerful tires for clearing gravel roads).
The summer garden is in the middle of fabulous forests and lakes in a hilly terrain. The area is usually called the "Wilderness in southern Östergötland" and is very sparsely populated. Choose one of the beautiful hiking tours, maybe for a few hours or all day. There are 12 different marked hiking tours to choose from with associated maps and directions. There is something for both the hiker and the really well-trained.
Paddle on mirrored lakes in the middle of the wilderness. Get ashore on some cozy beach and enjoy a picnic basket. Listen to the birds chirping and the whisper of the fir trees and feel the harmony spread in the body. Maybe you take a dip in the clear water or fish for a while before heading back to the Summer Garden.
