Southeast of Västerås near Strömsholms canal is Strömsholms Marketenteri with the mahogany villa. The building dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has, among other things, named the alcoholic mahogany mixture containing brandy and sugar drink. Nearby is beautiful Strömsholm's canal with Karl XV's lock.
A major attraction in the area is Strömsholm Castle, which was built in 1560 by Gustav Vasa and then inhabited by, among others, the widow queen Hedvig Eleonora. August out you can go on tour in the castle, later in the season you can eat lunch in the castle park and admire the surrounding area with its oaks and beautiful hazel groves. The mahogany villa is located in an area that for centuries has been a center for horse care with riding school, stables, riding centers and animal hospitals.
At Marketenteriet, located in the middle of Strömsholm, there is your own bakery where you find fresh bread every day. During the summer you can have a drink at the popular outdoor restaurant with glassware. It is possible to place orders and the assortment includes all types of fig bread and food bread. The house's specialty is the Dream Cake that has been around at all times. The rooms have an atmosphere that matches the age of the house and you sleep well in the vicinity of the oak gardens. Breakfast is always included in the price.
