At Arbogaån in Västmanland lies the town of Arboga, dating back to the 13th century and an important place in Swedish historical writing. It was here that Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson was named national chief whiteman in 1435. Within cycling distance is Hjälmare canal which was completed in 1639 and thus counted as the country's oldest navigable waterway. The town has shops, galleries, museums and of course nice cafes and restaurants. The perfect bike-friendly accommodation in the city is the charming Arboga Stadshotell.

Of course, the city hotel is in the middle of the city. The standard is high. There are 28 rooms where you sleep comfortably after today's bicycle excursions. If you want to gild your stay a little extra, you can book the special double room with a view of the eaves and your own sauna. Why not top with a bottle of champagne in the room? At the rear of the hotel there is free parking for guests. You can lock your bicycle in the hotel's storage room, and there is a stationary bicycle pump at the main square right next to the hotel.
