Starting from Borgvik in southern Värmland, you will discover inviting bathing spots, good food, exciting places, fantastic handicrafts, and beautiful views. This is a diverse and inspiring cycling package that can be customized with more nights and activities. You cycle on calm country roads, sharing the road with cars. The surface is both asphalt and gravel. The length of the routes can be adapted to your needs and preferences.
You'll sleep in really comfortable beds in newly renovated twin rooms with private entrance and garden furniture on the grass outside at Hotel Kungskvarnen. Dinners are served in the restaurant, or if the weather allows, on the veranda. The food is always well-cooked with good, honest ingredients. Beef, lamb, and game meat come from the hotel's own farm, and mushrooms and berries are from the surrounding forests. Welcome to a wonderful cycling holiday in Värmland with great food and a peaceful sleep in the beautifully located Hotel Kungskvarnen.
Day 1 - View over Lake Vänern and Lakeside Scenery
Lunch & coffee basket, dinner
38 km (and 5.7 km hiking)
You arrive in Borgvik at lunchtime, check in at Kungskvarnen, and enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterward, you embark on a cycling trip to Liljedal via Kyrkebyn, where you park your bikes and hike along the "Kycklingleden" trail. It's recommended to unpack the packed lunch and enjoy the panoramic view of Lake Vänern from the highest peak.
Feel free to stop by the beautiful Sävsjön on your way back and take a swim before continuing towards Borgvik. Dinner is served at Kungskvarnen's restaurant.
Day 2 - The Viking Trail
Kungskvarnen hotel and restaurant, Borgvik
Breakfast and dinner
59 km (can be shortened to 36 km)
After breakfast, hopefully enjoyed on Kungskvarnen's sunny veranda, head west. Your first suggested stop is at Värmland's Viking Center and the harbor in Nysäter, where you'll also find a grocery store, garden center, and a fantastic curio shop. Continue towards Långserud, passing Gillberga berries along the way, where you can pick your own blueberries.
In Långserud, you can visit Esterscafe and Wikfors bruk. On your way back, you will eventually pass Kungshögen at Högsäter (one of three burial mounds along Byälven designated as the grave of King Olof Trätälja). Then take the ferry across the river and ride on gravel roads through the forest back to Borgvik. In the evening, a two-course menu awaits at Kungskvarnen's restaurant, guaranteed to satisfy your hunger.
If you prefer a shorter day, you can head directly from the Viking center to Gillberga bär.
Day 3 - Klässbols Linneväveri
Kungskvarnen hotel and restaurant, Borgvik
Breakfast and dinner
67 km (can be shortened)
Today's destination is Klässbols Linneväveri, a well-known linen weaving mill in Sweden. Starting from the north of Borgvik, take a winding gravel road to Värmskog. If you're feeling hungry, stop at the café to try their delicious shrimp sandwich, or continue towards Klässbol. In addition to the weaving mill, there is also a showroom and an outlet, so leave some space in your bike bags.
On the way back to Borgvik, you'll be cycling on a rural gravel road through forests and over hills. Just before reaching Borgvik, you'll come across the water ski club at Holmtjärn. In the evening, you'll once again sit down to a delicious three-course meal made with carefully selected local ingredients and lots of love at Kungskvarnen.
If you want to take it easy today, you can choose to do a shorter trip to Värmskog and maybe hike along the Silver Trail instead.

Very beautiful around Borgvik, good bike paths, little traffic on the roads we shared with cars. There are also hiking trails that are well worth a visit when the legs and buttocks become too dumb. It was a good arrangement with accommodation and food. Very good food and good coffee bread served by nice staff.

Very nice place and great bike rides! Good food and good rooms (we had upgraded) and very nice hospitality.

Poorly marked cycle route. Too little detailed map. Totally dependent on GPS on mobile to find out.

Very nice place. Small rooms, but excellent comfortable beds. Very nice staff!
We could just as easily have booked accommodation on our own and looked for luck on the map. Unfortunately. Offered accommodation did not meet expectations, but after the upgrade it was perfectly ok. The food is good. The environment / facility as such, pleasant. Service- first impression not good, then - nice but, as I said .... I am disappointed. We had to take care of our own cycling ourselves and we did.
