Cocoon Gårdhotell - set table

The bike tour begins in the historic city of Kristianstad, located in southern Skåne. The city was founded in 1614 by Danish King Christian IV following the Kalmar War and has a rich history to explore. Don't miss Naturum Vattenriket, just a stone's throw from central Kristianstad. You then continue to Åhus, one of Sweden's best-preserved medieval towns with narrow alleys and picturesque half-timbered houses. Here, you'll find Absolute Home, where you can learn more about the history and philosophy behind Absolut Vodka. Enjoy authentic Skåne cuisine at Åhus Gästgivaregård, and treat yourself to amazing ice cream at Tre Kulor ice cream kiosk, located at the end of the pier by the harbor.

The journey continues towards Friseboda Nature Reserve, where you'll cycle along the Hanö Bay, right next to the sea. As evening approaches, check into the charming Cocoon Gårdshotell, located in Degeberga. Here, you can savor an exquisite, well-composed five-course dinner at the hotel's own restaurant.

Day 2 - Degeberga-Andrarum at Verkeån Nature Reserve

Tastecelebration Andrarum - good food

You start the day with breakfast at the hotel, and then head towards today's destination, Andrarum and Österlen. At Maglehem, you can turn off the bike path on the embankment and cycle to Blåherremölla. Here, you can buy homemade cookies and enjoy coffee in a wonderful old farm and mill setting.

For many, Brösarp's hills are the very embodiment of Österlen - both the northern and southern ones - and there is much to discover here. The views are magnificent with miles-wide vistas over Verkeån's valley. Haväng is an enchantingly beautiful place where miles-long sandy beaches meet heathland and rare sand steppe. Christinehof's Ecopark, Christinehof's Castle from the 18th century, and Hallamölla waterfall are also well worth a visit. In the evening, a delightful 3-course vegetarian dinner and prepared beds await you at Tastecelebration Residence.

Day 3 - Andrarum-Simrishamn

Outdoors - apples

After a delightful breakfast, you continue cycling along winding roads in the beautiful and hilly landscape, with your final destination being Simrishamn. You pass the old fishing village of Kivik with Äppelriket, Kivik's musteri, and the annual Apple Market. Take a break and stop at one of the cozy cafes and restaurants. Make a stop at Stenshuvud National Park and hike up to the mountain's peak for a brilliant view of the sea and Kivik with all its apple orchards. A little further south, you'll find Djupadal, home to Mandelmann's Gardens.

Simrishamn is often called the capital of Österlen and has roots dating back to the 12th century. Here, you'll find picturesque pastel-colored houses with beautifully carved doors typical of the region. A little further south lies Glimmingehus, the best-preserved medieval fortress in the Nordic countries, and not far from there, Ales Stenar, Sweden's largest preserved stone ship setting. Other places to visit are the charming fishing villages of Skillinge and Brantevik. Perhaps you'll stay an extra night and explore the surroundings?

Starting the Sydostleden in Kristianstad was initially problematic. we started from the central station. It was not clear from signs there which of the two eastbound parts of the Southeast Trail we started on, after a while we realized that we were heading to Sölvesborg and turned back to find the trail towards Åhus. Once on this trail, it proved difficult to follow the trail out of Kristianstad. Road works, construction projects were in the way and the signage was not completely updated. By asking our way, we could finally leave Kristianstad. In the future, the trail worked perfectly. The room in Åhus inn was not OK - black painted walls, non-functioning bed lighting. TasteCelebration was an outstanding experience in every respect!

Wonderful part of Scania. Many slopes AND plains!

Difficult to find Alunbruket, the description did not state that you should take off towards Andrarum, so we cycled the wrong way. Bad Signage to Degeberga, got it wrong because the trail took us to the wrong Degeberga.

Cocoon meetings 10/10. Alunbruk 1/10.

The accommodation and food at Alungårdens B&B unfortunately lowers the rating on an otherwise great trip.

Hello and thank you for a pleasant trip in Eastern Scania. Nice overnight stays that were well balanced for tired cyclists, nice reception and good rooms. Dinners and breakfasts that suited us well. Nature was shown from its finest side with sun, heat and many tailwinds, the embankments were nice to cycle on which also offered fruit moments after the road. Pictures will come that can be used by you if they suit.

Apart from the fact that we had a little too simple bikes for the distance we cycled, it was a fantastic experience. The food was good, but at Alunbruket the evening meal was sold as dinner, which we did not really agree with. The food was good, but more of supper / cafe / cold meal. The dinner did not quite meet our expectations. Otherwise a very nice excursion.

At Cocoon Meetings we had a good two-course dinner. Other guests ate the 5-course meal and we got two of their five courses. It felt a bit stingy. Add that 5 dishes are included in the package, and it feels much more luxurious. 5 dishes cost SEK 595 according to the menu. At Alunbruket we got a plate of simple, good food. Wine should have been brought with you. Shared bathroom turned out to be in another house quite a distance away... Very good cycle paths and clearly signposted.

As always, Österlen is fantastic to see and experience from the bicycle saddle. It is wonderful and varied nature with beautiful beech forests, rolling fields and breathtaking views over the hills down to Hanö Bay. Most of the cycling went on cycle paths and sometimes on busy roads, but then usually with a little traffic, which meant that we could all enjoy cycling in peace and quiet. We were three adults and two children (7 and 10 years). For the younger one, it could sometimes be tough with difficult slopes, but for the most part it worked very well. The food was good at our two accommodations, however, one should consider having a menu even for children who do not always appreciate for us tasty "adult food". On the whole, a very nice experience that we are happy to repeat.

One accommodation double bed in large room, other accommodation bunk bed in small room. One dinner two luxurious dishes with wine rights, the other dinner a good but simple cold plate without wine rights.

First accommodation Cocoon was great but a bit too far from the trail we cycled. There were a few extra kilometers that we didn't need anyway. The second accommodation was spartan but ok. Good thing if we had known that it was not possible to order a glass of wine in the evening, then we could have chosen to buy something with it ourselves. The whole thing was good!

We can really recommend taking a bike ride on the Sydostleden trail from Kristianstad to Simrishamn. Many fine cycling trails and an absolutely wonderful nature.
