Karlskrona was founded in the 1680s when King Karl XI needed an ice-free port for the nation's warships. It is built on a number of islands and the inlet was well guarded by the two fortresses Kungsholm's fort and Aspö castle. During this tour, you will, among other things, be able to visit both. There will also be visits to Skärva Manor where the shipyard admiral of Chapman housed.
You arrive in Karlskrona and take the archipelago boat M / F Axel to Nättraby, a nice trip for about half an hour where the last part goes into beautiful Nättrabyån. You go ashore at the small church that was built as early as the 12th century, with much of the decor since the 1600s. You cycle through the community towards Sjuhalla and Skärva.
Skärva Mansion was erected as a country residence for the shipyard admiral of Chapman. The main building has a very distinctive building style and is surrounded by an English park. The manor is part of the World Heritage Site, and you spend your first night in one of the buildings in the area. Dinner can be eaten in the village (or bought with) before the bike ride out to Skärva.
The second day you decide whether you want to ride a bike or take the boat to Karlskrona. At the Marine Museum you can look at interesting things from Karlskrona's history and here it is excellent to have lunch. On the menu, besides "today's dish" there are special dishes from Blekinge, such as body cakes and fried herring.
In the afternoon you go with the guided tour to Kungsholmen, which together with the castle on Aspö was built as an effective defense of the entrance to Karlskrona. During the tour you will also visit the exciting park, which houses plants from all over the world. It was customary that the sailors on the long-haul fleet of the fleet brought a rare plant and planted here. You are back in the city in the evening and spend the night in the old Crown Detention Center at Stumholmen, a building monument that is part of the World Heritage Karlskrona, and is about five minutes by bike from the city center where there are several good restaurants to choose from. The detention cells are quite small and you sleep in bunk beds (comfortable ones), but can choose to upgrade to accommodation in hotels if you prefer.
After a good breakfast you can choose to look around in the world heritage city Karlskrona, maybe play mini golf on Dragsö where the course is a Karlskrona in miniature or visit the nice hometown park on Wämö. Sometimes it is possible to follow a guided hike linked to the world heritage. You can when you want to take the ferry to the island of Aspö. The ferry leaves once an hour.
At Aspö there are several nice cycle paths, and the day can be rounded off at Kastellet where you immerse yourself in history and have dinner with the framing of the thick stone walls or out in the courtyard. You sleep in the former lot tower some distance away, with a fantastic view of the archipelago.
After breakfast, take the ferry back to Karlskrona. Depending on how much time you want to spend in the city before it is time to go home, you will get suggestions on nice cycling routes in the immediate area. Maybe you choose to stay an extra night, and experience more of the Blekinge archipelago?
