Lovely accommodation and service. Forests and meadows with winding hills.

This packed cycling package takes you through enchanted forests, the eastern slopes of Lake Vättern, picturesque Gränna, historic Visingsö, and the Apple Valley with its fruit orchards reminiscent of a Småland Tuscany. The small wooden town of Gränna, known for its polkagris candy canes, is located at the foot of Grännaberget. Here, you will be greeted by cobblestone streets and charming low houses. The harbor has cozy restaurants, and the ferry to Visingsö departs frequently. There are many sights on the island, and it is easy to get around by bike.

You will enjoy comfortable accommodation at Bauergården, savor well-composed dinners, and bike on charming gravel roads amidst the presence of the magical forest near the little village of Bunn. After a day of cycling, you can rest and freshen up in your room, perhaps even relax in the sauna before the evening dinner.

Åsen's village

After checking in at Bauergården, you can embark on a cycling tour with the destination of Åsens village and the charming farm café, Åsens skafferi & servering, located in Södergården's barn. Here, traditional Smålandic ostkaka is baked with milk from the neighboring village. You can savor the ostkaka in the café or take it home with you from Handelsboden.

The journey continues as you cycle through the hills towards the beautiful Ramsjön. Along the way, you will pass the entrance to Råbyskogen nature reserve, which is perfect for a detour. As you continue cycling, you will be surrounded by a true enchanted forest that has inspired the artist John Bauer to create his classic paintings.

Day 2 - Gravel Roads, Candy Canes, and Lake Views

Polkagris production - Småland - Gränna - Visingsö

After a satisfying breakfast, the journey continues towards the picturesque town of Gränna and the historical island of Visingsö. Here, there are plenty of wonderful experiences waiting for you, including the iconic candy canes. You'll cycle north through a stunning landscape, and in Gränna, you'll find several charming restaurants while the ferry to Visingsö runs frequently. The island offers many attractions, and you can easily explore it by bike. Some of the highlights include the Visingsborg Castle ruins, the straight-lined oak forest, and the Visingsö Castle in Näs.

If you prefer, you can choose to shorten the cycling distance by returning the same way from Gränna. In the evening, a pleasant dinner awaits you at the hotel.

Day 3 - The Lovely Apple Tour

Äppledalen - Småland - Rudenstam fruit

Today's itinerary includes a visit to "Äppledalen," also known as "Småland's Tuscany," due to its unique climate and location of the orchards. You'll cycle through the Bunndalen valley to Ölmstad on winding country roads through forests and open fields. At Kaxholmen, you can stop by Hunnerydsbadet for a swim before arriving at Rudenstam apple orchard with its farm shop and café, where you can enjoy lunch or a snack.

You continue on through Äppledalen to Vistakulle fruit orchard with a magical view over Lake Vättern. There's a farm shop with a café and a small coffee roastery that's well worth a visit. The day concludes with a ride around the beautiful Landsjön for those who are up for it, otherwise, you can turn back and cycle towards Ölmstad and Bunn. A well-deserved dinner awaits you at the hotel.

Day 4 - The Beautiful Countryside of the Eastern Vättern Cliffs and Return Home

Bauergården - picnic in the forest

As a grand finale to this wonderful cycling package, you will ride through a rural environment on magically undulating country roads, passing by barns and manor houses, horses and cows. The geology and topography southeast of Lake Vättern provide a nature beyond the ordinary. There are lands that have been traditionally farmed for a long time, and rock slopes that are almost untouched. The cultural landscape is alive with oak pastures that belonged to large estates and deciduous meadows by small cottages. And also lovely silent forests.

We recommend making a stop at Flättinge Gårdscafé, located in the old stable of a family farm. The farm cultivates, among other things, sweet lupine, a legume with high protein content that has long been grown in the Mediterranean region and is similar to soybeans. Then it's time to head back home, with many memories in your luggage. If you wish, you can choose to stay one more night and end your stay with a dinner at the hotel.

Payment is made directly to the organizer.

Cancellation or changes can be made no later than 3 pm the day before arrival without charge. Cancellation later or no-show will be charged with the full amount.

It was a wonderful environment in the countryside around Bauergården. Very varied terrain that gave the cycling extra nature experience. However, there could have been more cycle paths (GPX files) adapted for us pensioners (70+) on electric bikes, and not just for Mountenbikes. Top marks to Bauergården and its staff but also the accommodation, breakfast, dinners and lovely lunch packages. Even the sauna down by the lake where we took a dip every day was perfect.

Great staff, lovely surroundings and varied, hilly bike paths 😎

The description via bile gpx was not good. It must be possible to use maps that also show buildings, waterways, not just lakes.

Thank you very much for helping us improve! We continue to work on explanatory instructions to make the digital maps easier to use. Glad that it worked better with the physical maps! Kind regards Sofia/Bauergården.

Nice accommodation, however we got a very small room, with no place to store bags and clothes except on the floor. Very nice staff. Cozy with bathing lake and sauna a stone's throw from the accommodation. Nice bike tours to choose from or find your own tours.
July 2023, Bodil E.
Bauergården exceeded our expectations. We are very happy with the bike tours. The nature is absolutely fantastic but quite hilly. There are several nice excursion destinations. Morning bath every day and evening sauna one evening was also appreciated.
July 2023, Lars S.
Excellent accommodation and full board.
June 2023, Bengt M.
Good accommodation and food in Bunn. More gravel roads than expected. Much more hilly than we had expected. Good to have a paper map in addition to GPX files.
June 2023, Åke S.
I would like to get the GPX files earlier to have time to prepare maps. Bauergården has more tracks so a wish would be to get them all so you can mix the experience yourself. Otherwise, a wonderful stay at Bauergården with its fantastic staff and premises. On the electric bike we managed the slopes with brilliance.

Thanks for the nice review, so glad you enjoyed your stay with us!
You will receive the Gpx files as soon as you have confirmed your booking by email to us.
The tours that we propose are a suggestion to get a good variety of experiences but you can of course mix and match yourself or ask us at the reception to show you good alternative tours. We are considering the possibility of expanding the range of trails for the coming season, thank you for good input!

Lovely accommodation and service. Forest and meadows with winding slopes.
August 2022, Hans A.
Almost perfect but definitely hillier cycling than expected. But everything is relative so...
August 2022, Stig A.
Preferably a chair in the room.
August 2022, Monica D.
Nice days in nice surroundings. Maybe the lunch bag wasn't really worth the price. It would also have been good to get more information about the cycle routes regarding the choice of bicycle!
August 2022, Jan-Ove B.
Beautiful surroundings made the bike tours a great experience, even though we cycled wrong many times. A more detailed map or description of certain sections would be desirable.
August 2022, Viktoria Widen
Very good arrangements, good service and friendly and helpful staff at the hotel. Fresh and nice rooms in the hotel. All the food and picnic baskets were beyond expectations! We would like to advise you to be informed that a bicycle basket/bike bag is necessary for bringing a picnic basket. Messy with getting access to digital maps for the various routes. A new phone is required. Would have liked to have received maps in paper format
July 2022, Per Olof O.
It is positive that the cycle tours had a varied nature in terms of nature experiences. The bike map had limited resolution and was not useful, but the GPX files in the mobile phone were very good and necessary. Bauergården also has described cycle tours and they were clearly better from an information point of view. You should coordinate the information with them and please be clear about the degree of difficulty of the trip, for example when it is 85 % dirt road and 450 meters of climbing.
July 2022, eva-britt H.
A little too many slopes and dirt roads for us who are a little older. But incredibly beautiful scenery to discover and fantastic accommodation.
July 2022, Josefine A.
Very nice staff and nice place. The cycling was wonderful, varied and a bit up and down. The only downside was the lunch bags, a little on the low side and coffee would have been desirable. Otherwise top and nice rooms, good food.
July 2022, Maria E.
Everything was perfect except that the cycle paths were not marked. The map we were given was unclear and if we hadn't had the nature map in our mobile phone, we would have cycled the wrong way. We cycled along the path to Gränna, the old country road in and over the mountain home. Second day troll forest 3.2 miles.

We are of course sorry that you find the map unclear and it is good to use GPX files as a supplement, we take this into account. We recommend bikegpx.com which is free and easy to use. When you book this package, you will be sent an email with digital maps to download in advance.

Greetings Sofia/Bauergården.

Nice and nice tours, varied. Should have stated how difficult cycling the joints are for less advanced bikes. Accommodation good. Nice and well thought out. Very tasty food. Room no luxury with quite ok.

There is a link on the hotel's website that is under road work, Fågel blau.
The joints in the package are adapted for easier cycling in the beautiful hilly environment.

Kind regards Sofia Pettersson, Hotel Manager.
